I just installed my new 512 meg RAM from Transintl.com and it works like a charm. I haven't noticed any big speed increases, but I have to admit, I didn't do any tests before I put the new chip in.

Really nice to have all that breathing room now.

The chip fits nice and snug and seems to be a perfect fit. It cost only $289 plus shipping, which seems reasonable considering what the price could have been.

(Remeber when we needed a product like Ram Doubler?)

It's kinda sad to think you have to spend $289 for a 512 MB ram chip for a $1400 notebook.

If spending money to expand on your iBook is kinda sad. Then I must be a LOSER. I have 384MB RAM, a Logitech Trackman Optical, and a 40GB External Firewire Drive ALL on my iBook.

Grand total for the iBook........ $1800
Grand Total for Perifs............. $220
---------------------
$2020

Oh calm down. He's not calling anyone anything. He offered his opinion.

It's kinda sad b/c for the price of that one chip you got a nice mouse, respectable amount of RAM and good size storage.

It's also kinda sad that a 512 MB module is 5.5 times more expensive than a 256 MB module. Or that it's twice as expensive as a 512 MB module for the TiBook.

Of course the price will come down as production volumes increase. But it's kinda sad that in this era of dirt cheap RAM prices that someone has to pay $300 for a RAM chip. But if amrosario needed it now, then no cost was too high from his perspective...

You want to talk sad? I remember when I spent something like $1200 for 32 meg chips (each) for my Power Computing clone not more than 5-6 years ago! Every time I think about that, I weep uncontrolably

Yeah, it sucks that these chips are now $300, and, I'm sure they'll be coming free in CrackerJack boxes by X-mas.

As Tony Soprano says...

Whaddaya gonna do? Pick up the pieces and move along.

I just ordered a 512 chip from memorytogo.com for my 466 iBook. 150$ sounds too good to be true, but I have to try it.

I am interested to hear if the 512 chip works in your ibook GroovyPatateFrite as we have almost the same ibook. Please post here if it works. I have a 366 so if it works in yours it should work in mine.

I installed a 512 meg chip in my 466 SE, and all is well!
It was a bit of a tight fit, but was recognized by the system, and really improved the performance of Virtual PC, and Bugdom in OS X.
