Well due to the positioning, if I crane my head a bit to the left, it's noisier. Straight on looking at my monitor though, it's fine. To be honest, I can't tell any difference from this 867 and my Beige G3, the noise level to me is the same. I love this baby more though, faster and when I put it to sleep, it sleeps, the main fan on the Beige kept going no matter what.

I'm not complaining but I wouldn't complain if it was quieter too. LOL

The problem with this poll is the phrasing of the question:

"My G4..." implies that someone has already bought one.

Apparently there are a lot of people simply not buying them (according to recent Apple financial filings, PowerMac sales are *WAY* down) and I would say the noise aspect would be part of this.

I never thought my QS DP 1GHz was noisy until I did some repairs recently on a G4 400... the damn thing was soooooo quiet in comparison, (it has been 9 months since I sold my PBook!) I could hardly believe it! If I could get the same level of performance with that sound level... HEAVEN!
Cheers,

ever since the firmware update it's been very livable. but it's not as quite as my old dual 450. But still very livable...

Me too thinks its noisy but im lucky because i only get to hear the powersupplyfans due to me living in cold environment

I was annoyed by it at first but have gotten used to it over time.

The noise of my DP 1 gig MDD is driving me insane. I don't know what I'm gonna do. It's sitting here running next to a G4 450 which is putting about about 1/3 the noise and without the high pitched whine.

..have you tried firmware update 4.4.8 ?

.. i heard it removes the os-9 noise problem.

..in x , it supposed to be quieter - and you can always get the mobo reset.

..then again , these things do seem like very cheapo fixes on rather expensive machines...annoying.

Hi, I have been reading about the noise level of the new powermac's
The sound is there I will tell you that, but after the firmwareupdate, its much better.

I use to get these jet engine sounds from my fan as it would cycle into high gear right when I start up or during heavy movie processing (with final cut pro)

Now, I only hear the regular fan noise which is not too bad. Definatly louder than my older G4 400 and no where near as quiet as my iMac flat pannel 700. But the speed makes up for it.

I have have been running macs since the era of the Classic. The fan noise is something I will live with to get the type of performance I get out of this machine.

It would be nice if it were a little quieter, but im not complaining.
Just posting my 2 cents.

Thanks

Mine is fine except for right the first part of the boot process... If yours sounds like that the whole time, you have my sympathy
