I got my order a month or two back and finally had my first 'meal ' yesterday. Chalky and bland even with a teaspoon of vanilla flavoring, but not too bad.

Did I mention I have this for breakfast every day now? Solves a lifelong problem, takes minimal time to consume, and is fairly inexpensive. Been using coffee syrups to flavor it, which adds some sugar, but looking into sugar-free ones.

I like lead with my breakfast. But those doses are quite low, you have to consume pack after pack after pack to really get the lead high going.

I've been wary of this stuff because I remember reading that the act of chewing and the interaction with saliva is something that's helpful nutrition wise but if all your food goes straight down, you're missing out on that process. Maybe a compromise would be eat soylent once a day and the other two "real meals".

My blood sugar is out of whack, so I'm back on the cold cuts/salad diet.

I know I touted the superiority of this diet to Soylent, but now I remember I supplemented it with low-carb shakes.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread the store bought versions of "food shakes" have nasty stuff in them, which one can avoid with the Soylent. What are those?

I'm hopeful, because I assume most of the bad things are carb filler, which get replaced with good, old-fashioned fat in a low-carb deal.

I'm looking for the opposite. Soylent is way too carby for me, so I'm getting store-bought stuff.

IOW, what were you trying to avoid which drove you to Soylent in the first place? So I can see if it's in what I'm drinking.

Making breakfast, having an unhealthy breakfast, drinking nutritional drink based mostly on sugars, and buying an expensive breakfast.

So, in terms of actual food intake, what bothers you about a pre-made shake is sugar?

That comes off as incredulous, but I'm just confirming.

If it is, then I'm set. Almost no sugar in low carb stuff.

It's not actual nutrition. I'm looking for something to supplement my shitty eating habits, not exacerbate them.

I'm not an expert and haven't looked further into Soylent at all, although I'm interested - but I thought the touted benefit was that it is an actually nutritionally balanced meal. I didn't think the average meal replacement drinks were nearly as thoroughly engineered?

Not mainstream ones. They do have stuff for people in comas apparently. Which, I imagine, does not taste good.

I wonder how much balance becomes an issue once you get rid of the carbs.

The stuff I'm drinking appears to be cream, oil, soy protein, and Splenda.

I'm under impression people don't get enough fiber and protein. It's one of the points of contention with soylent because they've reduced fiber content not for dietary reasons, but because it made some people too gassy.

I think customers are hoping they get to that place. This is still a start-up and just 6 months ago it was taking a month for them to fill orders. They now do turn-arounds in 24 hours and are expanding into premixed bottles so one would hope that's coming down the line.

The irony is a good probiotic would probably take care of it, but I imagine wouldn't survive being powdered.

I was listening to a radio programme that said that its now thought that gut bacteria is everything when it comes to nutrition. People who eat a wider variety of foods live longer due to the more varied bacterial fauna in their guts. People will begin to tailor their diets to their own unique bacterial profile in the coming years.
Its a matter of time until your Apple watch tells your phone how many miles you walked today, so the phone dials home to your fridge which dispenses an appropriate meal to your smart oven which has it all ready for when you walk in the door.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....
