I just saw The Haunting in Connecticut and it shows pictures (maybe late 1800s) of dead relatives propped up or sitting on a couch with with family like they were alive. I saw this in another movie once before. I've seen lots of old pics in museums and even our old family pics but never have I seen pictures like this.

Was this common? Was it a certain ethnic thing? I've heard of Irish wakes where they prop up gramps in a chair in the corner while the rest of the family gets stiff.

Just creepy is all.

How was the movie? I'm tempted to see it.

All in all, considering the genre, I thought that it was very well done. Well directed and well acted, especially by the kid who plays the main character. I enjoyed the hell out of it. It's on the cliched side, of course, but that goes with the territory.

Isn't this normal in Western culture?

It's a PG-13 "horror." I can't imagine anything good about it.

Then you obviously don't have much of an imagination.
