Can I launch OS 9.1 (without using OS X), and run Virtual PC. It's only when OS X is running that OS 9.1 does not have direct access to the hardware...is that correct?

I'm sure I read somewhere that a OSX native version of Virtual PC would be out either on Saturday or within the next couple of weeks and that it SCREAMED

Of course you can. What would be the point of OS 9 apps not running on OS 9?

Connectix had been telling people that VPC for OS X would be released shortly after OS X. Unfortunately, in one of Apple's press releases from Wednesday, Mitchell Cipriano, vice president of marketing at Connectix, said, "Look for Virtual PC for Mac OS X this summer."

Win2k is faster than WinXP. The greater the system requirements of the OS, the slower it will run in VPC.
Win98 will run faster than either of the above.

I have found that OS 10.1.4, VPC 5.0.2, and NT workstaion Service pack 6 are a good match. The good aspects of 2000, but with the lower system requirements of NT. I have been using this on a PowerBook G4 400 w/512 MB ram (196 MB dedicated to VPC)and have found the performance to be very good. Not super fast, but much better then Windows 98 or ME. Also, you avoid all of the crap programs ie,"movie maker" and others.
