The icon on my desktop that displays my harddrive and the amount of free space if very often inaccurate. Currently, mine has been stuck at 26.15 GB free for two weeks, but as you can see in the screen capture below, that isn't correct.

Is there anyway I can fix this? It's driving me crazy!

Thanks!
-Nitz

nah, it's just another one of os x's 'features', pretty damn annoying too. Not got a solution to it.

Try turning "Show item info" off and than back on, don't know if it works for you but it sometimes works for me....

you can fix this by logging out/in or... *gasp* rebooting!

it i think my 10.2 os x had this 'feature'. i have gotten used to just removing show item info. i use the free space number in the finder window now, it seems to be more accurate.

I'm sure it worked in 10.2, the icon auto-updated itself, or if you just clicked on the icon.

Mind you, this seems to be one of the main faults with OS X, that folders, the desktop never seem to update properly, for instance, I shove over a bunch of files over the network to OS X's desktop, they don't show up, unless I browse via the finder window, same thing with folders.

Neither worked. I'm the only user on my iBook, hence the only profile, so no need to log out. And I turn my iBook off after each use, so that *isn't* going to fix it.

Let's not forget all that virtual memory and other space where Panther hides files to make things go faster. Maybe both number are correct. You can think that you have one amount of free space while it says another.

But really, it doesn't update the icons enough, even if I had to do it manually by some keystroke or menu to update everything I would be happier. Same goes for copying files from one drive to another or downloading files . . . why do I have to click on the folder for them to show up, I'm only using 10%CPU I wouldn't mind the OS using a bit more every other second to keep things up to date.
