That sounds about right. I was considering whether or not the Odyssey's destruction was the event that triggered Worf coming aboard starting Season IV.

Na he was brought in season 4 when the klingons and federation went to war.

God I can't believe this was all so long ago!

Ooooh, yeah. The first glimpses of the Negh'var class.

I freaked out 2 years ago when I realized it had been a decade since Generations. Its been TWENTY years since TNG first aired. Insane.

Yeah, I read about that in wired but I never got around to downloading one of the episodes. Apparently they have a ludicrous amount of support from people formerly involved with the series.

I'm not saying that what they're doing is cool, but I watched the teaser of one of the episodes and it just looks half-assed. Sure the sets are cool, but the acting doesn't work for me.

Yeah, fan stuff never worked for me either. Nobody's ever gotten it right. There's always this feeling like it was more done by fanboys that were more interested in dressing up than really bringing the spirit of the show back.

Now, that said, there was a company about 10 years ago that offered to update the special effects for the original series. It was great for its time. THAT was worth seeing, if you can find them on the net.

I edited my post. The second link is actually the footage I saw years ago. The first link was done by another group. There's a clip missing from the second link where the E gets hit by the planet killer and the beam bounces around the E's shields. Pretty cool.

They should get the guy that played Vorak on Voyager to play Spock.

Nice!

It was mostly good, but it looked like he fudged with the transporter effect and the debris coming at the viewscreen is done to death.

First one is ok. Second one is horrid, looks like bad CG.

I think I know what the problem is though. it is the manner in which it is filmed.

I've watched every episode of Star Trek (every series), but I still don't have a sense of scale or speed of the ships and universe. The reason is the enterprise looks the same traveling at warp 9 as it does at impulse without blurry stars. The shots are also so neatly done with the enterprise always traveling from left to right sailing by the camera.

In BSG they use those camera zooming, blurring and handheld type shots that makes you feel like a witness on the scene with a camera. By the end of the pilot episode I had a perfect idea of how fast all the ships move, how heavy and maneuverable they are and the sense of scale to passengers and the distances they are traveling.

Watching Star Trek is like explaining a plane to a caveman.

JJ directing means nothing will happen for the first 95% of the movie and the last 5% will leave you saying "WTF" (witness LOST and the ending of Alias).

Every time I see Matt Damon I will expect someone to take a shot at him and have a 10 minute chase sequence (Bourne Supremacy).
Genius. You know who.

If this film is supposed to be about a 'young' Jim Kirk, perhaps he won't be a Captain?

Kirk was the youngest captain in Starfleet history.

Perhaps it will follow the journeys of Custodial Apprentice Jimmy Kirk.

It'd certainly keep the budget down...

I just picture a movie where him and spoke are unintentionally placed together in a situation where kirk needs to take command and acts as captain as it sets up why he was the youngest in history.

Star Trek loves to do small lame things like that.

Speaking of things ST loves to do, I hope they don't do something like have one of the actors of the TNG timeline series come in and play one of their ancestors.

Oh ya ****, I forgot about that.

Even worse would be time travel or any sort of temporal anomaly.

You know... I bet Kirk's gonna make love to the borg queen. You know they'll do it.

And for the record I was a huge trek fan till Voyager killed the franchise. An hour of Seven of Nine arching her back.. greeeaaat TV.

I hear that. I love those stories, but they're done all the time and never right. Of course all that really leaves is the klingons (or maybe) the Romulans.

That is exactly what saved the show. Straight teenage boys loved her.

I thought she looked nice but her character was so C u n t y.

My guess is it will break the consistency they hold so dear so they can show a romulan or some other alien that is nerd boner worthy.

It is a DAMN good thing you didn't watch Enterprise then. They raped it big time. Ferengi's, romulans, the works.

I watched it on and off. Either I was too far removed or not well enough versed in old Trek or far too infrequent a viewer to see the changes.

Yeah the Romulans only by radio contact.

I do seem to remember an episode where Archer met the quasi-borg. I was...irritated.

Ya, I skipped that episode as soon as I heard the borg were going to be in it. Doesn't the writing crew have any more imagination left?

Truthfully, I think almost all that can be done has been done. That's why i'd like to see it take a 10-year hiatus.

I know, and when the ferengies were on Enterprise they never said their races name.

What I am saying is that the writers are so dry on ideas they have to come up with silly excuses rather than come up with something original.
