Can we get a picture of every single Mac model in one thread? Maybe with an accompanying anecdote.

To get us started here one of the original bad boy.



I used one of these in my second year of art college to write my dissertation on. Everyone thought I was mad to use it instead of a pen and some paper. Lost all my work twice but carried on regardless.

That's one Big Mac there, turtle. I suppose it had to be there for completeness. I'll hold off posting my Macs until later because I didn't get into the game until fairly recently.

I did my dissertation on one of these in 2000, by which time it was quite an old model. Now and then, the screen used to go bright pink, then, after about 10 mins of that, right on cue, a curtain of red pixels would slowly drop down across the screen. I would squeal, curse the machine lustily, Alt-S, Alt-S, Alt-S my 50,000 word AppleWorks document, pray, and reboot.

Everything would be fine again.

Sitting on among the clutter of one of my desks, while I figure out what to do with them. I inherited them from my office.

The iMac's a rev. B bondi, the ibook is definitely OG.

Both are in great shape. And they're MINE!

First computer was a hand-me down 7200/120. I used to play with Photoshop and Bryce all day and probably crashed it 3 times every day as well.

It had a whopping 192MB ram (up from the 16 it shipped with), 1.2 GB HD (love how they used to go up by decimal points, wow! .2 more gigs!) and a gargantuan 17" Apple CRT.

Then I gave the 7200 to my old man (poor guy) and bought a spankin' new iMac Rev D. 333 in Tangerine. Along with an Epson printer, UMAX scanner, and a zip drive (which I still have and never use).

Like lots of the Rev Ds the internal heat caused the video board to short out (signified by a loud SNAP and blank screen) which in turn also fried the power supply. After getting it fixed under warranty the screen had a green tinge to it. Also the USB ports were....flaky at best.

After selling the iMac for $700, I then bit the bullet and bought a spankin' new 733 G4 Quicksilver pretty much right after it was announced. With a 19" Viewsonic and AppleCare I ended up taking out a $2500 loan for this sucker.

This is an old picture, with my old monitor. I recently bought a cheapo 17" Widescreen Compaq LCD (which, for my purposes, has been a great monitor). The RAM is maxxed, it has 120GB of internal HDDs, and a Pioneer DVDRW for good measure.

Within a year or two I will be buying some type of MacBook(Pro?) depending on my finacial status. I intend to keep my G4 until it bursts into flames, which won't happen because it's spent most of its' 6 years kept on.

Of course if Apple decides to sell a Mac pro at less than 2700 dollars then maybe I'll rethink my purchase (please?)

Edit: Also, the mouse in the above picture has been with me since the iMac. I assume I will use it with whatever Mac comes next.

I had a Rev D iMac in Blueberry, a 900mhz iBook, a 1Ghz 12 inch PowerBook and now a CoreDuo 2Ghz MacBook. My next one might be an iMac I'm not sure, I like having the mobility of the laptop, but who knows really. I rarely take my MacBook with me since I have my iPhone.

There were a few of those at the school I attended.

I've had a bunch (= I'm old) ... all-time favorites:

• The SE/30, because it was the first Mac I've ever used and it was my introduction to graphic design (Aldus FTW!).
• The Color Classic because it's the cutest Mac ever made.
• The LC II because it got me through the first half of college.
• The Performa 6200 because I met my wife through it, and because it was the worst computer Apple made.
• The Sawtooth because it stood by me forever and it was my launchpad into self-employment

Twelve of them are still around, including the Color Classic - and all of them are in perfect working condition.

No, you're seasoned. Old people yell at kids on their lawns. Seasoned people point out how to get something out of a slot-loading drive without losing one's mind because they've done it more than once.

I'm not "seasoned" in terms of Macs, but I remember my first real infatuation with one. 1988, a military exchange store's "computer store" (a large closet with decent lighting). It was this cool little box with a video display in it, and a really nice keyboard. I think it was an SE... Sigh.... It was almost 15 years later that I finally realized that I could afford a Mac. Oh the wasted time!
