Yeah, I would love to use that along with the NeXT theme and dragthing. I already got it looking quite a bit like NeXT.

is this real??
in os9 there was bartender, which let me hide the menubar.
moving the mouse to the top of the screen brought the menubar up, only...
was pretty buggy, enough to be useless.

meanwhile, i can't find anything about this app.

so, real or imagined? (or home-brewed & unreleased??)

Home-brewed and unreleased is my guess.

I don't see the point of the application myself? Why hide the menubar?

Well, many people would say the same thing about themes, icons, etc. My only reason is because it looks perty...

Well, I rarely use the mouse for anything other than PS. I just have it exclude PS. Keyboard is faster for me

ideally the menubar would appear when you mouse over the top of the screen...

just an aesthetic thing, but for those of us who are staring at at mac's all day, would be a nice option.

personally, i'd love to be able to have my menu items & icons show up without the bar itself (the way text & icons show on the desktop...) ie just words & icons over my desktop picture

options & customizations make our computers OURS...

It would be cool if the menu bar could act like a dock, hidden until moused over, even magnifying a little for the visually impared

this is a great app, i've been looking for something just like this. the only problem is - it's easy to get windows "stuck" in the menu bar area because it pops down whenever the mouse is moved into a spot where the menu bar would normally be. I wonder if there is any way to change it so that it only appears when the mouse is moved to the very top edge of the screen?

It takes a little getting use too, but you have to click/hold down on the app itself then move the arrow up to the top the app and then release and click on it again to move the window.

cool that does help a bit. also interesting is that with some apps you can drag them into the menu bar area (the finder for example) but some you can't (safari). Hitting the zoom button though will maximize the window into the menu bar area.

Yeah, this is nice, but we can hide the dock outside of barmaid, so why not make the menubar hiding independent?

He has another launcher (now called Butler) in that screenshot, which can make menus like that (as well as a whole lot of other stuff). Although I didn't know you could make the icons in launcher menus 32x32.

I have been using BarMaid for like hours now, and I must say that I love it. I have been wanting something like this for quite some time now.

Some things that I don't like or things I think should change:

Take out the dock functionality. This is already implemented rather well with the OS. If you do mess with the dock, please make it show / hide as fast as the apple menu

Also, check for memory leaks and stuff. I noticed that after I installed the .ape boot times have slowed down considerably for me. Also, at times, finder becomes unresponsive. Not sure how to reproduce this, but as this has never happened before, I assumed it was BM.

I also noticed that at startup, my Shape Shifter theme was not applied instantly as before. This tells me that something is going on with memory.

Thanks for this great app. Keep it coming and keep it free!

Well I too notice problems with the app, like mplayer will not work, x11 will not run...i have been told that it emulates the dvd player and this is how the menu bar dissappears..as we all know when running apples dvd player, weird things happen...but i do like it, and i hope the creater can improve on it...i love it.

Well if the dock hiding was optional I'd love it, so far like really like it though.

Edit: aped at 10% CPU all the time is a bit much too. Once that's fixed I'll give it another try.

Besides everything else mentioned already ...

When I use the "Focus On Menu" shortcut, it would better to show the menubar.

I myself use keyboard just like many of those who would like to have the menubar autohide.
As the guy using keyboard, I often go to the menu by the shortcut (Alt+' for me) and go from there.

Shura.
