Anyway, there does not appear to be any real reason as to why they do it except that the first documented US college fraternity did it:

OTOH, perhaps the English letters representing the Greek ones actually mean something. As far as I know, this isn't the case, but that may be one of the many secrets the fraternities keep
It's not a secret. It's on the web site's FAQ page:

5. What does Phi Beta Kappa stand for?

Phi Beta Kappa are the initials of the Greek motto Philosophia Biou Kubernetes, "Love of wisdom, the guide of life."

Now, the handshake, that's secret.

Madison is cute, but needs a better makeup job. It kinda reminds me of Tammy Faye.

As a current member of a fraternity I can tell you that the letters do mean something. The first greek letter fraternities started out as literary societies with emphasis on ancient literature (latin, greek, etc). They chose a greek name in secret, and used the greek letters to represent that name. It was a common game among the fraternities to try and guess what they letters of the other fraternities meant. While I can tell you that the letters do stand for something, I cannot tell you what they mean, as that is one of each fraternity's most closely guarded secrets.

They're all decent, but none are amazing. Then again, they're college girls, not supermodels.

I still don't understand all this fraternity and sorority stuff though. Over here we have things called 'friends' that we hang around with. No membership required
