So ever since upgrading the chat window in facebook is all glitchy. People will sign on, but I won't be able to see their names until I double click on them. Also, it crashes VERY frequently. Any ideas?

Remove any Safari hacks you may have installed and try again.

Try a new user account and see if the issue continues.

Try a WebKit nightly and see if that fixes the issue.

Can you see people that were already there? i have a problem similar to yours.. When people sign-on, their names won't show at first, but if I hide the chat menu and open it back, they will be there. As there's a yellow bar under their names to indicate they just joined, this may be a programming bug (text behind the yellow bar?) that is ignored by Firefox.

As for the crashes, up to a couple of days ago, the nightly build would crash very frequently while typing in boxes in FB.

I use FB with Safari, and it works fine 99% of the time.

On rare occasions, it'll half-update the chat menu: the yellow bar appears, but the name never does. Reloading the page fixes it.

On even rarer occasion, on Safari 4 for Windows, something goes haywire and every received FB IM message is sent with an invalid MIME type, causing Safari to throw an "unsupported MIME type" error.

I've had no trouble with Safari 4 being unstable on the Mac. On Windows, maybe once every 2 weeks it'll freeze up and have to be bounced.

Also, on the Mac, I use ClicktoFlash. I loves it.

How'd you do the upgrade?

I'm running 10.4.latest, and it said that there was new software to install.. Safari 4 was one of htem. ****ing crashes literally a few times a day, to the point where I'm basically ready to just give up and start using firefox.

I have some odd issues with Safari on FB as well, no hacks for me. I just use Firefox when I want to be on Facebook.

I haven't had the issue but I rarely chat through FB. I usually use Adium to chat.

The status bar always says:

'Loading "http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home", completed 86 of 87 items'

This message never goes away even after the page has completely loaded and I'm using FB.
Don't have any of the other problems described in this thread though.

I get the yellow box as-well. Normally clicking they're name fixes it. I also found the photo up-loader applet wouldn't embed properly.

Only add-on I have is safari block to block all the pop ups and inpage ads.

I have been using FB with no problems at all, until Friday when they updated their Home page.
Now, whenever I click in my status box to update my status, it crashes Safari.

Meh. Only a small subset of hacks could cause this behavior. I wouldn't blame anything outside of Apple code or maybe an ad blocker. Haxies just don't work this way.
