A free one would be nice, and, like fisherKing said, something with just song display. I've been looking for an app with these qualifications for a while, and I haven't found one. Maybe I'll just buy Synergy.

Check out if the following work for you...

M-Beat

Tigger

Both of these have options to put a scrolling notification in the menubar. They are each customizable to some degree. M-Beat includes controls, but they can be removed. Tigger is actually a framework for displaying various types of information in the menubar, or alternatively in a floating window.

I think You Control also has a feature like this.

Try them out and see what you like.

quicktunes is the only one that puts the actual track name in the menu bar like the apple clock, but as you can see there are other choices...
peace.

hmmm...just checked my email (606pm); not there... ???

synergy is nice; so far, m-beat does the trick, but...can't seem to access the app!
when the controller & the menubar icon are hidden...cant find a way to access the app!

still looking for quicktunes (and my last post on the subject, sorry)

Butler does most things Synergy does, is free and also does exactly 1.3 million others things.

end of story:

am trying quicktunes; simple, a static readout in the menubar (wish i could make the font smaller...)

but ultimately, am going with m-beat. works perfectly; a small scrolling menubar window.
and i can hide the app (ie menucontrols, icon).

simple, effective.

thanks all,
the macnn forums are a great place for help, rants, info.

great community!
