Think we'll see that as apart of Disk Utility in Leopard? Obviously it's a program that allows you to partition a HDD without reformatting. I could've really used something like that a few days ago.

the have apps that do it now.... but they are not part of the OS. I wouldn't see why they wouldn't add it in though now that they've made their own.

Would definitely be a welcome addition to OS X. Partition Magic has been able to do it on the PC side for years.

Well, there are limits to what the BootCamp repartitioning can do. The docs say that your drive must have only one partition to start with (i.e. it can't already be partitioned before you start the install process) and will create one new partition only. However, it manages to do this all while you're booted from the very same drive you're repartitioning, which is quite a feat. I wonder if there's something about the new GUID partitioning scheme that EFI machines use that makes this repartitioning easier than under the older PC/Mac schemes.

If you have 10.4.6 try running this in the Terminal:

diskutil resizeVolume

(don't put any arguments!)

I believe this feature is unique to the new EFI partition map.

If, that is, you don't mind performing a highly dangerous operation that isn't even mentioned in the man page...

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Just for clarification, Jellytussle wasn't advising anything risky. Without arguments, that command just prints out a description of the command and how it's used. Changing the partition map, like diskutil and Space Maker can do, is dangerous.

resizeVolume is only supported on GPT media with a Journaled HFS+ filesystem.

Well, it's not like i said 'run this as root' or anything. But no harm in clarifying that all you'll get is a description of the resizeVolume operation, and its requirements.

edited because i didn't read Charles' sig.

Ah, my apologies.

I have to admit, I'm kind of curious what Pacifist could have had to do with this thread... what was this before you edited it?
