I bought a 350 MHz B&W G3 tower, and then I bought a 400 MHz G4 upgrade for it. But when I turn the machine on, I only get 5 chimes. First I thought that the processor I bought was dead. I set the speed jumpers and everything correctly. But then I started reading and now I'm not sure, so I have to do anything special to the machine to make it accept a G4 upgrade? Any apple firmewares or other firmwares. I don't know what brand of processor it is, does that even matter? Any help here would be greatly appriciated.

if the firware had been upgraded then it won't take a g4 and you'll need to patch it to get a g4 too work. other than that you need to tag the cuda switch next to the pci slots.
a search should net you info about the firmware patch.

If I were you, I'd overclock the machine to 450 mhz and return the processor upgrade to the store. Mine's been running at 450 for about 3 years now (Started as a 350, too).
