Hi
I just copy all my files from my old computer (pc computing 133) to my new G4.
All document and file sizes expand.
the same file - 65k on the power computed is now 1.7 MB on the G4.
I copied 4 GB and now I have 35GB without any data changing!!!
What is going on?? Any suggestions??

when you move files from a small Hard Drive to large one they tend to take up more room, it has to do with block size (I think). The files that are most affected are small ones.
From 4GB to 35GB seems a bit extreme, but if the 4GB consisted of 1000's of small files, then i suppose it is possible!

Check to make sure your new G4's HardDrive is formatted to HFS+(MacOS Exrended), not HFS.

You need to reformat in HFS+ (Mac OS Extended).

Sorry I left off the "how to" part.
You can also break your drive into different "volumes" by partitioning. By partitioning, you make several autonomous volumes on the same drive. You can do this with drive setup, the same app you should use to re-format to HFS+
Mac OS Standard format uses a fixed number of data blocks for a drive. As a drive(or volume) gets bigger, the blocks get bigger.
So a 10k file that was 64k on a 1GB will be 640k on a 10 GB.
Using HFS+, that same file would take up 16k(2-8k blocks).
