aMSN may not be the best looking app in the world, but it now supports webcam receiving and sending! It works very well in fact.

It works with any webcam supported by OS X - my Fire-i firewire camera.
You need to be talking to someone first before you can see the webcam, and there are no prefs for it.

That's probably more depending on the will to implement it than the ability to do so

This is a MAJOR step in the right direction.
I have personally seen several users NOT buy a Mac (one of them actually bought an iBook but sold it again after four weeks) SOLELY due to lack of MSN video chat.
Before you fret about how stupid this is, remember that many people use their PCs primarily as communication devices, and that MSN is market leader by a VAST majority in Europe. No, having these users ask their entire buddy lists to switch over to AIM is NOT an option.

On the other hand, they still can use normal chat. Or different put: how often do you really rely on audio and/or video chat?

That post wasn't about me.
the point is that this is 2005, and those people - not I - WANT to video chat. ("Need" is irrelevant. Nobody "needs" chat, when they have e-mail.)
In fact, one of those customers bought his son an iBook expressly so they could video chat.
He sold it after four weeks and got his kid a Dell, after it turned out that there was no MSN video client for Mac, and he couldn't easily get AIM video chat to work on his Windows box. (Yes, yes, I know - but the point is that, incompetence aside, his son would still be using a Mac if there had been a video chat solution for MSN, plain and simple.)

I've been looking into this myself lately, and I found that Mercury Messenger does MSN webcam and video chat. You have to use the latest beta, and it's still a bit rough around the edges, but apparently it works (I haven't actually been able to test it yet).

Tested aMSN with a friend with a webcam, and I was able to see her fine. I may get that excuse to buy an iSight yet.

Yahoo Messenger works with iSight cross-platform... and you can add the account to Adium to hide the ugly interface...

|
It'll be much easier if you just comply.
