What age did you all start shaving regularly?
I'm 16 and this summer just had to start shaving on an every-other-day basis. I don't like it...too annoying!

Started when I was 14.
I’ve given up on doing a “proper” shave. Instead, I just take a wetted blade and quickly skim off what I can – no shaving cream, no trying to get every last minutia of hair off. I figure it’s more efficient to get 90% of the hair off within 30 seconds instead of 97% of the hair off within several minutes. Plus, it actually irritates my skin less, because the blade isn’t rubbing right up to it.
’Nother question: How many blades? I personally go for two; one is too dangerous (I’ve only cut myself on one-bladers), three snags too much and is annoying to clean, and any more than three just exacerbates the flaws.

I get a pretty stout beard going if I let it go, unfortunately I've had jobs that require a clean face for a couple of years.
I use a Braun electric daily, and use a 3-blade whatever a few times a week. The hotter the water, the better, a good shave GEL, and a washed face. These are the ingredients that get me a close, comfortable shave.

I'm almost 21 and I still don't have to shave. I find this particularly fascinating as I haven't been carded since I was 16 and I don't know why.

I started at around 15. At the time is was really stoked to be finally growing a 'manly' beard.
Today I whish I had less male hormones determining the growth of my 'hair'

I can't remember if I was 13 or 14. It is a PITA, though. I usually let it grow out until I or a family member is sick of it, or if there's an important event to attend. Now, however, I have a new shaver, and my objective is to keep the hair at a very short length. I like it when it first grows out, but after that it just gets annoying; if I can keep it near that length consistently I'll be happier.

As someone who hates shaving as much as the next guy, can't use an electric shaver (no matter how hard I try I have too many spots the thing just won't get), and has no problem with the permanent 5 o'clock shadow, I can highly recommend to anyone else in my position to use an electric hair clipper (like they use to take off your hair in the army). I can cover my whole face in about a minute flat and then I'm good to go.

Using a shaving brush instead of your hands makes it a lot easier to apply the soap/foam/gel. I don't think I need more than 1 or 2 minutes every morning for shaving.
More importantly: Men, rejoice! Shaving the face is a lot less hassle than shaving your legs. Which really needs to be done every other day if you want them to look proper. And takes a lot more time because the surface is a lot bigger and the shape is awkward (think shaving the insides of your knees). I know it because I've tried.

I was 17 or 18 when I had to shave regularly every other day. Then about 20 every day.
I hated shaving with a blade so much, I started using machine. It is better IMO. Easy to get the stubble look when desired.

I could barely grow a crappy goatee at 18.
Around 26 I started needing to shave every other day. Not that I do, always.

My sentiments, too. Though I don't mind having a mustache, so I get to do a tiny bit less.
The first time I shaved at all was at 14, but I only had freakishly long sideburns then. I think I was 15 before I had to do the whole beard area. And I'm really not sure when the neck got covered.

I think it was last night when I realized the eternal stubble we see so regularly on TV nowadays may be regarded like the beard of the 70s.

14 or 15ish.
My last shave was about six months ago, so I'm at the Zakk Wylde headed for the ZZ Top again. I tend to only bother to have a shave when it starts to annoy me.

I think I got my own electric razor when I was 15 or 16. I still don't shave everyday, I have a thick goatee but nothing else at all if I let it go. At this point (20) I couldn't grow sideburns if my life depended on it, but a day after shaving I'll have some intense sandpaper right on my chin. I'll shave before I see my sister (she says facial hair looks dirty and hates it) or girlfriend (sandpaper isn't the best way to get close). Otherwise I'll let it go about a week before I get sick of it and shave it off.

believe it or not i was around 12, almost 13 when i first had to shave, im 22 now. i used an electric for awhile than i started caring what the outcome was and started using a 2 blade. havent looked back to electric since. the best shaving gel that i've found thats works really well is the new oil free skin clearing shave gel by neutrogena. it comes in a blue metal dispensor with a smokey plastic top. best stuff on the market that i've used. i use a mach 3 razor, i tried the new fusion razor, but it clogged to much for me. have fun shaving, i know its a pain, but itll be fun if you let it

I started at about 15 shaving about every day with a blade. Bad idea-my beard is a lot heavier than my dad's or my brother's. My son was required to shave regularly by his Jr ROTC unit, but I supervised how often that was so he has a chance to have a manageable beard now.
I wear a beard now, but still have to shave to keep a groomed look-otherwise I look like I just came down from a cabin in the hills.

Regardless of what body part you plan to shave, always shave after a long, hot shower. The hairs will be more supple and will cut more easily, and the skin will be more pliable, resulting in less irritation. Apply shaving cream and let it soak in for a few minutes before shaving. It has moisturizers that need to sink in.
I really have found the Mach 3 to cause less irritation than a 2-blade razor. But no matter what razor you choose, replace it frequently. A dull razor causes vastly more irritation than a fresh one.

Started shaving at 15. I hated it then, hate it now. I went to a small private Christian school, and facial hair was a huge no-no for the students. They would make me shave with a one blade Bic if I came in with a little too much stubble. I'd come back into class with pieces of TP all over my face to stop all the bleeding.
Now I only shave on church days (Sun and Wed), so on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, I'm quite stubbly. Rather roguish, if you'd ask me.

Oh. Right.
For some reason I thought Military haircuts were to help keep hair out of your face on the battlefield and such.

No method of shaving has any effect on hair growth. It's basically an old wives' tale that scientific research has disproved.

Your hair can grow quite a bit before it's in your face. I would guess in the military it's about conformity. Plus it is a lot easier to say 'buzzed' than 'not in your face,' or 'not too long.'

Very true. One of my roommates and buzzed our heads and I've found it's nice not having to do anything to it in the morning before work. But I look like too much of a goober (so says my sister) so I probably won't do it again.
Thanks, couldn't come up with that in my mad fury to post.

crew cut; noun; a very short haircut for men and boys. ORIGIN 1940s: apparently first adopted as a style by boat crews of Harvard and Yale universities.
I've often thought that in the armed forces the top was a bit longer than the sides, and buzzed was just short all over.
