It came to my attention today as i was sitting here admiring my Wonderful MBP. Is there a way to turn the airport on or off with the hit of a key? If there is could this be used for the Blue tooth also. Anyone... thanks

You can do this pressing a couple of keys - it is not that straight-forward though.
If you go under system preferences / mouse&keyboard, there will be a keyboard section. Now you can define a shortcut "Turn AirPort Off" and give it a shortcut combo.
Now press ctrl-F2 to change focus to the menubar (you can also change this if you want to), and then the combo that you just setup - airport should then turn off.
Obviously you will now have to make a similar key-combo to turn on airport...

The easiest way is to go next to the clock in the upper right hand corner and just click on the airport symbol and it wall ask you if you want to turn it off there in the sub menu, same thing with bluetooth.

Or you could make a Location in Network Prefs without an Airport or Bluetooth interface.
Go to System Prefs -> Network. Select Location and create a new location, call it something like "no ports" , then Select Show Network Port Configurations and remove the ticks for the ports you do not want active, and apply.
Now to turn off the ports all you have to do is go to the apple menu and select Location-> "no ports". To turn back on just select "Automatic".
Hope thar helps. You could probably even make a keyboard short cut to switch locations…

Wow, so complicated. Most non-Apple laptops have a single key combination to turn on/off all radios (often Fn+F2).

The single mouse click to the menu icon seems pretty easy to me.

Using the mouse to click on the Airport menu bar icon and selecting 'off' is just as complicated as looking for the Fn and wireless keys on PC laptops.
