Hello, just wanted to let you all know about a bug that made my install of OSX grow to about 4 hours.. When i installed OSX for the first time the setup all goes wonderfully until it asks me to name my computer and enter my password. Well bieng a very established unix guru, i erased the default name it gave and i typed root for the names i think it was login name or computer name.. 1 of the 2 that i figured would be the login. Well anyways after it installs everything OSX starts up and not 1 APP will launch. everything on the dock is FOLDERS.. I had to go back and do a clean install to overwrite my exsisting setup config to get this to work. UNIX geeks im sure will do the same so if you could please fix this i would appreciate it.

hmmm didn't have this problem, I have installed OS X twice and it took less than an hour. Also all Apps seem to open. Could it be an isolated case? What are your specs?

Look at this:

this TIL says NOT TO USE "root" as username...

Although I did use root as my admin/passwd I did not have the same problems as you did, but thanks CF for the info-link. Does this mean that I should also change my computer passwd in OS9.1, it's "root" as well, or does this just concerns with OS-X?
