therell be a press event in cupertino from 09:00 a.m. lasting three hours. at 12:30 a.m. theyll release two press-releases. some sites had prepared several reports about it but theres some kind of rule not to publish them until 12:00 a.m.

ask yourself: two press releases? why?

When you say 12:00am and 12:30am - do you mean midnight or midday ?

Must be 9AM Cupertino time(they wouldn't do it at 6AM). That's 12-3:30 EST.

Press Releases:
1) "We're sorry. Really"
2) "Introducing: MacOS X PB 2 - Steve Jobs will be personally adding the 'PB 2' to all boxes produced."
"You have violated the spelling of the DMCA and will be jailed with the Village People."

I presume you meant to say 12:30 PM. Two press releases suggests there's a lot of information coming out today - hard to guess how Apple wants to split that up, though.
What intrigues _me_ is the _three hour_ event. That's a lot of time! I don't think that's going to be (entirely) a MacWorld-type dog and pony show -- Steve is obviously going to be fielding a _lot_ of questions from the press.
Sounds positive!

Since OS X Final has been heralded as such a success, all I now care about is iTunes and the ability to burn music. Devil take your Apple DVD Player

Where on the web is the proof that there is going to be a press conference? I can't find anything on Apple's website.

Getting back to the PR speculation:

1.) iApps available for d/l 24th. DVD coming very soon to a Mac near you. Other 3rd party app, migration info.

2.) X has already secretly shipped and will be at your houses tomorrow! (I wish!)

hmm, 2 Press releases?
I see:
1) Mac OS X
2) iApps

OR

1) Mac OS X
2) Mac OS X Server (This one's a bit of a stretch because We've heard server will be out later.)

OR

1) Mac OS X
2) New Board Members, sales figures, unimportant (or semi-important) to us stuff.

As for whoever said that thing about a PB2. Get off it man. OS X is in a final form. Whether you like it or not, nothing is going to change that. It will get better, it will become an even more powerful OS. Beta means it's in testing phase. X is no longer in testing.

SirCastor: OS x is in it's initial form, and yes it is ready; people need to get over this PB2 nonsense, I agree.
There is no "final", and that is what all the naysayers don't get: it can improve later. Don't make us wait now for a perfectly viable product.

Well, maybe the second press release is for some secret hardware? As someone else posted, all this X hype would be the perfect cover for some pet project of Steve's to be developed and readied without anyone knowing... *cough Apple-PDA cough*

Oh definitely...but still no concrete evidence of the times of this press briefing... so the tension gets worse...

And for our Dutch friends, it starts - allegedly - at 18.00 CET

That should be 18:00 CET for us, which is good because it gives me time to go the gym, take a shower, relax in front of my computer and wait for the news to pour in.

I'm betting on:

1. OS X official press release (nothing too fancy).
2. Restate that iApps will be coming soon, as well as DVD support and restate that 3rd Party Developers are hard at work.

Woa there... One step at a time. We haven't even learned to use the metric system yet! Let's tackle that one first.

Maybe we should all just use Cupertino time instead.

9am is the press release.. but if anana is right then that means that the info will not be released until 12am Cupertino time which means 9pm for us Europeans (at least us REAL Europeans, and not the Brits who dont really seem to like us anyway and despite being right over France insist on having their time back one hour). Grrr It shouldnt be called GMT, it should be called UK-Time-Because-We-Like-It-That-Way

sorry.. just rambling. Brits are great. I love Monty Python

as themax has stated :
It's true : Apple wouldn't make a press conference at 9:00 WEST = 6:00 EAST TIME, it would be too early morning for Apple Employees.
Steve must do it at 9:00 EAST TIME, Cupertino.

So we'll have the final press release at :
12:30 USA EAST Time (Los Angeles)
15:30 USA WEST Time (New York)
20:30 Europe GMT (England)
21:30 Europe GMT+1 (Paris)

Why is everyone still talking about this? Doesn't ANYONE find it strange that NO ONE has provided links to ANY websites that speak of this long-ago mentioned "media event?"

Go to Apple, MacCentral, MacFixIt, MacResource, MacInTouch, Go2Mac, and even look at MacNN's page (and every other major Mac news site) -- NO ONE BUT "ANNANNA" IS SAYING THERE WILL BE ANY PRESS RELEASES!

I say put up or shut up -- provide evidence via web links that this "event" will take place. Otherwise, I say it's time to close this thread...

Oh boy I remember the good old time when NY was at the East of the US, and LA at the West side...

So many things are changing those days...

To all French people who think that UK time is wrong:

Here in the UK, we are on the meridian line (0?, well, Grenwich is, anyway) and therefore we should use GMT. It's the French who have chosen to use a different time zone, not the British!!

Umm, Earth must be spinning backwards in your universe
The Press Conference is at 9:00am Pacific, that is 12:00 Eastern

You go from west to east ascending in time. (Or according to GMT standards, you count forewards to the east from Greenwich, or backwards to the West.) Of course, I usually just count the 4 US time zones.

I think there will be a press release, I remember reading afew weeks ago (maybe on Macnn) that there would be a press release on the 21st of March. I was checking all morning because I knew that it would be sometime today but like everyone else, couldnt find anything specific at the usual sources.

ok, some people dont believe me but at this very moment the press event starts in cupertino. and to be 24-hours-compatible: 09:00 until 12:00

12:30 until 13:00 apple.com will release the press releases at www.apple.com/pr/library/2001/mar/...

the german mac-mag "macwelt" will reveal an report of os x at 21:00 local time. thats 12:00 west coast us.

ALL online-sites/-magazines have more info about the final version but they cant publish it until 12:00 wt - because of an nda.

youll see it!

Here are two more references to a press event:

From Businessweek today
http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/...010321_942.htm

Winning over people like my artist friend will take time. That's why Apple's approach makes sense. Its first target is the trade and special-interest press. We've been invited to what I affectionately call "reeducation" camps at company headquarters. Here, we'll learn to love the new system under the reassuring guidance of Apple's OS X gurus. And then we'll go forth and spread the gospel. Or something like that.

From Macaddict today
http://www.macaddict.com/

Don't hate us - chat with us!
03/20/2001 11:24 AM PST ~World Without Borders
That's right, as esteemed members of the press (or something like that), we get our copies of Mac OS X Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 21. To celebrate the momentous event, join Dave, Ian, Cathy and Narasu for an impromptu chat tomorrow at 7pm Pacific in the comforting environs of World Without Borders. Come on down, and see who can best type while licking the screen.

Well there was a story run yesterday on Cnet.com about lacking features in OS X release, and a paragraph that stated:

"Apple, which refused to comment on Mac OS X's features before its Wednesday press briefing, also is betting that its Aqua graphical interface will entice consumers and professionals away from competing products with what Apple considers blander and less-functional choices. " As today is Wed. and the story was yesterday, I would imagine there is a press conference of some type.
