Leonis, how did you install your version of OS X, because I have heard that the stability really depends on how you install it. Did you do a clean install or did you install it over another OS? When installing OS 9.1, did you install it first then OS X over it? If you have partitions, how are they set up? Some of the problems you are having could be a result of a bad install.

For those who will be using Classic apps under X a lot should go to grab Kaleidoscope and get the Aqua Theme from www.railheaddesign.com

I use the theme and Kaleidoscope to make the classic app look a little closer to the carbonized apps.......

Classic apps runs pretty quick.....but for now just make sure to launch each of them one by one....also I still see the annoying white box redraw artifact when the dock is "animating" on top of the classic app

Not to be the devil's advocate here, but does anyone find it odd that only one person reports receiving screen shots of the "final retail" version of OS X, and that these screenshots cannot be posted anywhere. Also, kman seems to blindly support this guy. There can easily be more than one accont for the same person. Let's see these images, guys!

On the installation you can have either one of the two options:

1) Install OSX first and then do another clean install of OS 9.1
2) Install OS 9.1 from the provided CD first and then apply OSX

The B/W G3 that I test was built from scratch but didn't have many apps for me to test. I installed OSX first and then apply OS 9.1 afterwards

The G4, on the other hand, has LOTS of apps for me to test. But on this machine OS 9.1 was installed first and then OS X ..... not too sure if it's the case that Classic Apps crashed the dock.......

It's exactly the same as what you see on Apple's web site. The white box thing still happens when it's pinning on top of any classic app

bpsmith:

I have been posting here for some time (and longer at AI). I am certainly not an alias for Leonis.

Leonis was kind enought to send me the photos. He is obviously concerned about his friend's legal considerations, so I will not post or forward the pics. There is no way I can prove to you that he sent me the pics. All I can say is that I have them and they appear legit. I told you what the box looks like. I have NEVER posted insider info or claimed to have insider info on anything. You will just have to trust that Leonis has pics, sent them to me, and I think they are real. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.

No problem, kman. I don't hang out here much, and I believe what you say is true. All I can say is I can't wait to the 24th, regardless of what build I get in the mail!

So I can assume, if 4K78, that there is no surprises?

Also, is QT 5 final?

Thanks,

QT 5 is final and the registration number for QT 4 works

I can run FIVE QT files and play at the same time

It's such a shame than Final Cut Pro 1.25 CAN run under Classic but CANNOT do capture and export to tape

QuarkXprss works fine....but since the G4 is hooked up to Stylus 800 (unsupported printer) so I can tell if printing works or not.....I will try to see if I can take my 740 to their place.

The OS X package really has NO DVD player software

I tried the DVD Player (classic) but when I double clicked the icon the dialogue box came out with this message:

"This Application is not support under Classic"

That means......if you want to play DVDs you MUST reboot from 9.1

One question only:

Is your copy of the 9.1 localized?!
And for what country, North America?

Leonis, I don't mean to doubt your credibility, but everything that you have mentioned so far about the retail version has been common knowledge, or things that we already have known about from either a leaked build or an online review/article.

Tell us something that we don't know... are there any included goodies, etc.?

Thanks!

ok, no chance of getting pics so...

-is itunes included? discburner?
-do function keys work as hotkeys?
-do the volume keys/eject key work?
-monitors system preferences: does it have color profiling?
-palm support? palm desktop, any signs of palm anywhere?!
-IRDA support? any mention of it in networking prefs?

longshots (as in if you've got the hardware):
-if you've got an apple monitor, does the monitors system preferences include geometry controls?
-isub, soundstick support? (i believe this was in previous builds already)

Thanks thanks thanks!

No iTunes
Haven't tried Hot Keys yet
Both Volume & Disk Eject work
Monitor preference - works but there's no way to choose the monitor refresh rate
Palm and IRDA - Haven't tried yet

The testing G3 and G4 didn't connect to Apple monitor, so I can't tell yet.....
Their are no iSub or SoundStick in the office so I also can't tell

Leonis is right on this!
He got the Retail Boxed version, the same as my friend recieved!

I have no doubt at all on this!

The only thing that differs is that my friends 9.1 was localized UK/Australia, but that probably have something to do with us being in europe...

Never seen so many people talk so dumb about a build number.
Windows had build numbers displayed from day one and I think, given the complexity of OSX, it's the only way for Apple to support people after the introduction.
Minor system updates bring a newer build number.
It can work better than OS 9.1 with Extension X version X.X.X and so on.
Just 6 days and you know.

You've got OS X final and you are going out to get a friggin' haircut?

Something isn't right...

I am not convinced this is all true. How come only 3 people are reporting having
the retail box. One in the Us. One in Australia and One in Europe. Why is it that out
of the hundreds of thousand CDs being sent all over the world, only 3 would show up.
The people who got them aren't telling, yeah right...

Leonis, I have long enjoyed your posts at AI but I am sorry to say I doubt this
very much... It just doesn't mesh. Any other reports besides his, wincent and someones
"friend" here on the boards?

Funny: This is the second time you've posted the "gfy" link on these boards, and I remember you having been pretty much unanimously burned to the ground the last time.

My prolem? People like you, and Naden. Whats that about uneducated claims?
No, its not out of line. The posted I responded to was being stupid and intolerant, and behaving badly - and I'd had enough of that, especially in the context it was in!

Actually, its the third time I've posted it. I only do so when I think the other person deserves it.
Three times in my entire time here... not too bad.
And anyway, you don't have to click it, do you? It wasn't directed at you.

Burned to the ground? How so? People didn't like it, and thats about it - thats their problem, not mine.
I've done it before, and I WILL do it again, if necessary.
And anyway, the LAST time I posted it people thought it was hilarious.
Ah well.
I don't care.

Stop and think about all this will you? I was defending someone else from a seemingly irrational 12 year old, and then, defending myself from someone who seems just plain stupid...
