My local cable internet company requires System 8.6.1 as the minimum operating system.
I tried to update my 8.5 to 8.6 but got a prompt that said that my computer doesn't support this upgrade.
However, on the Apple support website, it says it supports any Mac with a PowerPC processor.
Anyone out there who has an 8500, I'd appreciate any info you have.
thanks

I have 8.6 on a CD.
Maybe I'll try to download it off Apple's site and try again.
thanks

An 8600 can go all the way up to Mac OS 9.1. I know for a fact because I'm using a 7600 and 9.1 at the moment.
If you're talking about the 8.5.1 update, that was a special update for iBooks and blue PowerMacs.

8.6 complete retail disk, 8.6 updater, or 8.6 disk off of another computer system disk?

Not sure. I'll check.
Me thinks it was off another computer, hence the messages I'm getting.

Should work for ya. As a previous poster said, up to 9.1.
I have 9.1 running on an 8500/G3-454 and a 7500/604e-233.
Don't bother with 8.x, get the disk for 9.0 or 9.1 and get some more RAM. Velocity Upgrades had 128MB EDO 60ns for 26.99 a few weeks ago.

I'll chime in and say that I have an 8500/150 and it's running 9.1 with no problems. Im using RAMDoubler since I only have 48 megs of real RAM. Just can't justify more RAM even at these low prices until I get a G3 or G4 card upgrade. Back on topic: 9.1 is just fine for an 8500.

Yeah, about those TPS reports, didn't you get the memo?
