Now before you all go criticizing me for using AOL to begin with please bear with me. Some members of my family feel more comfortable with that service. Now on to my problem. It seems as though ever since I loaded OS X on my G4/450 as an option I am unable to use AOL under OS 9.2.2

It works fine under OSX but I don;t want them to keep having to switch back and forth just to use AOL.

Any suggestions as to what may have gone wrong?

I have been on AOL for the last 4-5 years with good results...
For starters, call AOL at 1-8788-265-8007, you may have wait for five minutes for a human voice..... It's a free call...They are open Eastern time 5A-3A...... or try the following steps....

TROUBLESHOOTING AOL5.0(Should also work for AOL 4.0)

TROUBLESHOOTING NO. 1

A. Trash the following...... (located in System folder>>Preference folder)

Internet preference...
Finder preference....
Mac OS perference....
System preferemce......

B. Everything from the America Online preference folder except the Data folder...

C. Open the Data folder and trash the Art and Window Size Database...

D. Restart and rebuild the desktop.....Launch AOL & then sign on. (Don't forget to reset Internet control panel later)

TROUBLESHOOTING NO. 2

A. Repeat steps A/B/C from above...

B. Move Data folder to desktop....

C. Trash AOL Link Enhanced and AOL Link Scanner from Extension folder...

D. Locate your AOL 5.0 B/U Installer or AOL CD ( double click the installer)..
From the dialog select ....CUSTOM INSTALL and then
and then select ....AOL Communication Files & System Folder items

E. Click to install (takes less than ten seconds)

F. Restart and rebuild the desktop.....Launch AOL & then sign on.. (Don't forget to reset Internet control panel later)......Quit AOL and do the next step and you are done.......

G. Go to the System folder>>Preference folder>>America Online folder.... and replace the new Data folder with old Data folder from the desktop......In order for the old Data folder to take affect you have to relaunch AOL again......

Now if that does not fix your problem we have to perform a CLEAN & EASY install below...

A. Trash the following...... (located in System folder>>Preference folder)

Internet preference....System preferemce....
Finder preference....TCP/IP preference....
Mac OS perference....Open Transport pref..

B. Everything from the America Online preference folder except the Data folder...

C. Open the Data folder and trash the Art and Window Size Database & then move Data folder to the desktop...

D. Trash AOL Link Enhanced and AOL Link Scanner from Extension folder...

E. Trash the America Online 5.0 folder from your hard drive ...

F. Locate your AOL 5.0 B/U Installer or AOL CD ( double click the installer)..

G. Select EASY INSTALL...

H. Restart and rebuild the desktop.....Launch AOL & then sign on.. (Don't forget to reset Internet control panel later)......Quit AOL and do the next step and you are done.......

G. Go to the System folder>>Preference folder>>America Online folder.... and replace the new Data folder with old Data folder from the desktop In order for the old Data folder to take affect you have to relaunch AOL again......

With luck one of the above steps will solve your problem
