I have a PowerBook I bought when the new ones came out in October. A couple months ago the main left fan started making grinding noises when it came on, and it's pretty damn loud. Anyone else have the same problem?

YES!!! I have exactly the same problem, I'm guessing that it's broken so I'm waiting for ifixit to get some in stock. It's probably a defect or something. Now my Powerbook is on a cooler 24/7 so I won't have to hear that ANNOYING noise.

Anyone know if this counts as a defect? I've never had a PowerBook fan sound like this. I've had loud fans, but this sounds like something dying and it's not smooth at all.

It probably is a defect, I would bring it to the Apple store, but I already voided my warranty.

My friend's MBP has the same problem too, it seems that the PB also has the "mooing" noise that the MBP has too. Can this be fixed somehow without buying a new fan?

I am a PowerBook fan also! Oh wait. Our 12 inch makes this noise, but it is more bent than a Swiss Alps road.

Is the sounds more similar to that of a HDD reading? And have you tried to move your ear across the first row of letters? I have the same problem too and gave it in for repair and they told me that the fans are operating in the usual range with no noises... when got the PB back i started it up and got the noise back, so it might not be the fan after all

Just got my MBP back from the Apple Store, left fan sounded like baseball cards in spokes(warranty repair, no questions asked). I even shut off my A/C once because I thought IT was making all the noise, but it was the MBP.

I'm pretty sure that it's the fan, it happened when I had the original HD in it and it still had that noise after I upgraded the HD.

was just an idea... cause in my case it isn't the HDD or fan.
