I did not know this but it seems like a smart move on the part of Hershey. They can make their everyday Hershey-labeled dreck which most people know and love (for some inexplicable reason) and make even more money from the high-end chocolate consumer who buys Scharffen Berger* because they care about cocoa content percentages and from which region/country the cocoa beans are harvested.
(*I find their chocolate to be a bit too bitter for planin eating but wonderful for melting down and using as an ingredient for dessert.)

Well most of their chocolates are very dark ones, the dark bitter chocolates. But their milk chocolate (very hard to find) is one of a kind. I love it.
I've never tasted chocolate as fruity as that -- and it doesn't have fruit.

I think it's more that I think those are better chocolates.
That said, Scharffen-Berger is my hands-down favorite, and it's neither French nor Swiss -- and I grew up in Switzerland!
I think it's not so much where it's from as who's making it. Believe it or not, there's bad Swiss chocolate. And there's great American chocolate.

The best chocolate I ever had was from some no-name hole in the wall mom and pop store in a small town in Belgium. The chocolates there were hand-made by the owners of the place, and they completely blew away any of the big-name chocolate brands I've tried.
If you ever have the good fortune to travel to Europe, that's how to find good chocolate - find these tiny little shops that make them in-house.

Doesn't Lindt own Ghirardelli? They taste pretty similar to me, exception being the Excellence bars.

Good dark chocolate should only have four ingredients. Milk chocolate should have just five.
Chocolate (cocoa)
Sugar
Cocoa Butter
Vanilla
Milk (if milk chocolate)
Anything with vegetable oil, corn syrup or any item you can't pronounce should be avoided.
If you want a great chocolate bar that's available in many places give Lindt Excellence 70% Cocoa a try.

This is good chocolate: http://www.dagobachocolate.com/

Yes, in this case you do get what you pay for.
If you want cheap crap that's made without cocoa butter, then you get cheap crap.

It doesn't. Waxy and yucky.

No argument. It's not the substitution that gets me. It's the way the packaging is now subtlely changed to mislead people into thinking something is what it no longer is.
I guess we have to wait for the "upsize" trend. If the economy ever recovers, some things will be "bigger size, same price".

BTW - these are a personal favorite:

I absolutely LOVE their dark chocolate, especially the mint chocolate. Exquisite stuff.
Their milk chocolate is a little too sweet for my taste.

The link is fine.
In fact, just for you, I even started up FireFox, and it works there, too.
Or is this some sort of weird tech joke that I'm just not getting (Commodore 64 server WTF?)?

Congratulations on your continuing to ruin this thread. I await your next pointed and high horsed response.
