iPad 2 Battery Draining While Asleep

The other issue on my wife's iPad after updating to iOS 8.1.1 ( I posted about no cellular service here) is that the battery is draining while the device is asleep.
I performed a reset, then fully charged the iPad. After charging, everything was fine UNTIL I woke it up to check to see that the battery was 100% (just before bedtime). When I checked this morning, here's what was reported in Settings > Usage ...
Usage - 12 hours, 35 minutes
Standby - 14 hours, 57 minutes
The device was not actually being used by anyone. Apparently, when I woke it up to check battery status, some process started and continued while asleep (?).
Usage in the Last 24 hours ...
Home & Lock Screen - 72%
Settings - 28%
Any ideas/suggestions?

We're still having trouble with my wife's iPad battery draining for no obvious reason. I should say that we've followed all of the basic tips on improving battery (e.g., turn off background refresh, notifications, etc.). Also have cellular turned off (it's not working right now, anyway).
Any thoughts?

Do you use an Apple charger, or is it some sort of multifunctional deal? Sometimes those things trigger the certification warning so it doesn't charge.
Other than that, the only idea I have is to disable background updates on app after app until it starts working.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

We do use an Apple charger. I also think we have background updates disabled, but I will check on it.

Then the only more hint I have is the really boring one: read log files to see if you can figure out what is going on. Apple has hid them under Settings -> Privacy -> Diagnostics IIRC.

We updated the iPad with the latest iOS update this morning hoping that would take care of it, but it didn't.
But, after looking at Diagnostics, there are many entries that start out "awdd-2014-12..." In fact, there are 35 entries just from today (plus many others from previous days), and my wife didn't even use it today. I searched and someone on Apple Discussions said "awdd" stands for "Apple Wireless Diagnostic Data" (could it be connected to the cellular service problem?).
I'm not sure what all of this means or what to do about it. Any ideas?

As I mentioned in the other post on the problem with cellular service, I had to restore the iPad as new, then restore the backup. Since then, battery usage is normal again (and cellular service has returned)!
