I am looking for a simple app to record voice and save it as mp3 or other common format. I mean record through the internal mic in the macbook.
Is there a utility already in tiger or some other way to do it?

is Garage band is very simple for it? I dont want to go into the complexity of opening a whole garage band project.I dont want to creat a song. Just want to record talks for fun or records.

To be honest with you, I haven't a clue as I don't use it myself, but it was the only app I could think of that was likely to be on your computer already that would be capable of doing it. Quicktime Pro will let you record audio (probably more appropriate than Garageband given your desires) but you'll have to pay for it.

Quicktime does that, though I don't remember if the non-pro version will...

Audacity is a free app for Mac or Windows, allows you to do simple recordings through your built-in mic. Do a google search for Audacity and download.

The more I read in these forums the more worried I get...I thought mac is supposed to be the best...easiest to use etc...it's not sounding like it.

I just got my first mac ever last week. It really is super easy to use. Took me about an hour to figure out the main differences in file types and stuff, and I haven't had a single problem. It's cake.
