NASA officially pronounced Mars rover Opportunity dead today. 15 years beyond its planned 90 day mission.

The NYT has a nifty map charting Opportunity’s travels across the Martian landscape.

We got good value for our money. 60x the planned lifespan. If only my hardware would go 60x past the warranty.

Very impressive. I remember the big news in 2004 also. That little rover went far, and that website is nicely designed. Loved it. We learned a lot about Mars.

I do hope, though, that NASA keeps some kind of cheap, automated system listening just in case.

I wish there was a better variety, people seem to keep posting the same three to every subreddit over and over again.

In that xkcd, I hear the rover's voice as Johnny 5.
