According to iTunes Help, a 128 kbps AAC equals 160 kbps mp3 "or better". Definately not 320 kbps but good enough for the masses I guess.

Bought Jump, Little Children - Magazine.

Now if only they could get some smaller labels and indie artists up there.

sorry, I am wrong. But..... look at this, 128kbps AAC = 256kbps mp3 = CD quality.
http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2003/...18170551.shtml

In fact, what I feel is: some 128kbps AAC songs are much much better than 256kbps mp3 files. However, some 30 seconds samples are worse, even worse than 128kbps mp3.

It's probably best to stick with 192kbps AAC encoding.

A little off topic, but related:
I just used the request link on Apple Music to list a bunch of labels that aren't listed, followed by the URL to their web sites. I highly suggest people do this with their favorite labels as well. I'm not surprised they launched with the Big Labels, but they'll look at the smaller labels if enough people request them.

Just out of curiousity - what's the sound like if you burn these AAC files to a CD - then re-rip as MP3 - the article in Fortune said they sound rubbish.

I've been doing random searches on the store and I'm quite impressed by the volume of music - although dance music is pretty thin on the ground (no tracks from Apple's favourite Powerbook drooler BT! and no tracks from underworld)

THEY HAVE NO AD/DC!!!!!!!!!!

Man, I lost/detroyed(accidently) most of my ACDC over the years. I really wanted them to be the first band I purchased....oh well, I'm sure it'll be there eventually.

It will also be great if they start getting deals with indies. This would be a great way for people like me who play in bands to gain exposure! They could even have a whole other "Indie" category.
I have been upgraded.

Yeah, what's with this "partial album" business?

I looked up "Jellyfish" and it was partial albums for both CDs they had available.

Canadian can't buy... but soon as I can I'm gona probably get some of Plankeye's greatest hits album I don't have, possibly get some of the first any given day album, buy some Jeremy camp, possibly some Halo Friendlies, in many ways I wanna buy the song Toby's Mac, as my first song simply cause it's halarious.
the guy's name is Toby Mac and he did a song called Toby's Mac, where the voice Fred "raps" it's fairly funny... although a buck american for a 45 second track is uhh yeah... I also need to get Calibretto 13's new album.. sadly almost all the albums I want arn't up... although my main wantings right now are only the new switchfoot album and uhh.... wow most of the albums I want I have... and I havn't bought music in a couple months!

I bought all exclusive tracks from the Apple Music Store:
1) Fallen - Mya
2) Stuck in a Moment (Acoustic) - U2
3) Safe and Sound - Sheryl Crow

It's really easy to start geekin' out on this stuff and get carried away buying tracks. I'm really digging Apple right now.

BTW, I think it would be awesome if Apple could strike a deal with some of these companies and offer pre-released music, so that Apple Music Store customers can get a jump on the newest and greatest.

I think they are going to have to in order to compete with the p2p stuff. Most albums come out on Kazaa a decent amount of time before available in stores.

Man, they got tons of music that Steve likes. I hope they can catch up in the other genres a little bit. Namely I'd like to see björk, and radiohead in there in a comprehensive way. Also some flaming lips. I need to get some more bands, geez.

No Dave Matthews at all. Missing a lot of old school funk. Disappointing. But hopefully the catalog will increase as time goes on...

Grabbed a couple of the exclusive tracks. Still waiting to see what it grows into...
