Just want to know if OS X v10.4 Tiger will work with my iMac PowerPC G3 400mhz. And is it super slow or does it run alright?

Thanks guys.

It works fine. Runs pretty okay. No worse than any other flavor of OS X, and possibly even a little better than most.

If the discs are DVD discs, and your iMac has a CD-ROM or CD-RW drive, it won't read the discs. As far as I know, TIger only comes on DVD (unless you trade the discs in for CD media).

Hope that helps.

Does your system have a firewire port? If not, you definitely can't run 10.4. It won't let you install, even if you get a DVD drive.

Requirements
Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3, G4 or G5 processor
Built-in FireWire
DVD drive for installation
256MB of RAM
3GB of available hard disk space (4GB if you install the developer tools)

How do I know if I have a firewire port? I have an Apple iMac, G4, 800MHz, SD RAM 1 GB, 80 GB HD, CD-RW/DVD-R superdrive, OSX 10.2.6

I am thinking I would like to format my HD and purchase Tiger. Can I do that with my machine?
Thanks!!

I've made copies of all my folders (except applications, which I still have CDs for), images, preferences, etc. I plan to use those once I purchase Tiger and zero out (format) my HD. I am VERY nervous about this, but I think it's something I can do.

Apple iMac, G4, 800MHz, SD RAM 1 GB, 80 GB HD, CD-RW/DVD-R superdrive, OSX 10.4.8
