Does anyone know if the ipad or ipad2 does or will support flash contents from various websites?
Or does current website owners need to start upgrading to html5 in order to gain more Apple device users?

That graph only references HTML5 adoption for video playback. Flash is used for more than just video.

Well, for most users, it's only relevant in regards to video.

Who the hell still has a flash website ?

There are tons of Flash only sites out there... The MLB Gameday app is Flash based, Pandora, Hulu, a ton of artist sites, kids sites, gaming sites, sites like Homestarrunner, etc.

As much as I dislike Flash, I'd hate to make Homestarrunner in Canvas

How many of those DON'T offer Flash-free alternatives?

Homestarrunner has had their videos on a podcast for years, MLB has had several apps out for years, as have Pandora and Hulu.

Um.

Jesus dude, cut out the pissy little pointlessly confrontational passive aggressive "ums" - I hate that shit.

Firstly, I didn't say that it would be impossible to replace all of those sites, I just said that several existed. Secondly, obviously you can release Homestarrunner videos as non-interactive movies, but what about the interactive stuff?

Flash has its uses, they are just dwindling.

Yes, it has its uses. I was questioning your examples, because for all of those (except homestarrunner; I don't know about that one - sometimes a question is just a question), a Flash-free way to access their content exists.

Via apps.

Make a point, but learn to live with people dismantling your examples if they don't support your point.

Edit: homestarrunner does not work, nor does it have an app.

That wasn't my point though, that was your point.

For the purpose of accuracy though, only Hulu Plus is Flash free (I think), the Pandora website is not Flash free, the Gameday website is not Flash free (Flash provides the pitch by pitch animations and other bells and whistles), and you glazed over the artist sites, kids sites, and gaming sites (interactive gaming of any kind is hard to do w/o Flash).

I didn't glaze over them. YOU failed to mention them.

You may have missed that I didn't disagree with you.

However, the fact that three out of your four "examples" actually offer alternative access specifically for iOS seems to confirm your assessment that Flash-exclusivity is dwindling.

Interactive gaming, btw, is what the app store is ideal for.

I hope that Flash-exclusivitiy continues to dwindle, I'm not a fan. Still, you can't fault users for wanting Flash to work on their iOS devices. It would be nice if it did, in a perfect world (where power plays, battery life, performance, etc. were non-issues), yadda yadda. Most users don't really care about this though, they just want the content.

The Skyfire browser for iPad claims to work with at least some Flash content. I have not tested it.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Coinci-f*cking-dentally, this is EXACTLY what the chart I posted above displays.

The chart you posted only displays Flash's dwindling use for *video*. It does not reference *all* uses for Flash. Specifically, it does not reference the use of Flash in interactive sites.

Yes, interactive Flash sites will likely eventually be replaced by HTML5. But the fact of the matter is that many of the more popular interactive Flash sites (at least insofar as the <10yr old market is concerned) have not yet been replaced by HTML5, and likely won't be replaced any time soon.

Just because *you* don't have need for it, doesn't mean others in Apple's target demographics wouldn't be able to use Flash on their iPads.

I wonder if there are some programmers out there working on a Flash-like SDK for HTML5/Canvas that would be needed for interactive gaming type sites...

South Park Studios doesn't support the iDevices either. Shame. And Hulu requires you to buy Plus and use an app.
