At the same time as introducing new iPhones and the Apple Watch, Apple has apparently stopped selling the iPod classic. The long-running music player is no longer visible in Apple's online store, suggesting the company has finally retired the device after seven years, and almost 13 years after the first version of the iPod went on sale.
Launched in September 2007, the iPod classic was available with a choice of 80GB or 160GB of storage. Serving as the highest-capacity music playback device on the Apple product list, beating the 64GB iPod touch, today's unveiling of 128GB models of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus may have given Apple the motivation to cull the device once and for all. Apple already removed the iPod classic from its refurbished sections in May of this year.
There are now only three models of iPod being sold online via Apple: the iPod shuffle, the iPod nano, and the iPod touch.

That's too bad... it's the only device with enough storage for my iTunes library. 128GB won't get it, and even if they update the touch to 128, it'll cost a fortune...

Sad. I like having a dedicated iPod with HD support.

While I'm sad to see it go too, the writing has been on the wall for this for a long, long time.
The good news is, I expect Target and whatnot will put them on clearance soon!

I just want an iPod to just hold a lot of Music. I may have to snatch up a new one to supplement my 80 GB iPod Video

I'm sure Apple will have tons of refurbished iPod classics to sell at some point. There really is no need to continue manufacturing new ones.

Roelstation: the "title" has to do with how much you post, not time served.

As for the iPod Classic: I never got one, because though I have a large music library, I was never very fussed by the need to swap out tunes. I'd listen to one set for a while, spend five minutes exchanging it for fresher tunes, listen to that set for a while, repeat. It was never a big deal, since the iPod needed to be charged periodically anyway.

@Roehlstation: it's judging the smoothness of your skin by analyzing your face via your Mac's FaceTime camera. Very cool technology.
