Today, I cannot connect some specific web sites, like cnn.com cnet.com macrumors.com. However I can visit other sites, like this one, apple.com.
Log in as another user, I met the same problem. So I think it is a system problem.
Restart, same problem.
How can I fix it?

Is it all the browsers? Or just one..if so, which?
If it's Safari, try first emptying the cache (Safari >Emtpy Cache). If that doesn't work, Try using the "Reset Safari" function (Safari > Reset Safari...")

Are you connecting via Airport?
I had that problem over Airport, and it went away with 10.2.6.
Before then, I had to manually reset the mtu size (packet size for Airport traffic) from 1500 to 1492 using the Terminal after every restart. (found the explicit instructions on http://www.macosxhints.org )
More details please.

Try using Cocktail to request a new DHCP lease (if you're using a DHCP server).

No problem.
I actually couldn't get to AOL.com about 5 minutes ago. (A logout fixed it.)

Two months ago, I met the same problem. The only site I cannot connect is apple.com.
I restarted into OS9, it was fine. But failed in OS X.
en, I still don't understand what happened before. Is it possible a file is damaged?

I dunno, I get it all the time with Safari (sites timing out).
I'm on AirPort, but the problem still happens whenever I connect directly into the cable modem.
I want to know what the issue it...I'm going to send feedback in Safari (hit the bug icon). You should too, and whoever else has this problem.

if he's tried the same thing with omniweb, lynx, mozilla with the same result, it does not seem like it is a safari bug so why report it as such? i think its just more fallout from the latest windoze virus making the rounds sucking up bandwidth left and right.

Off topic, but has any had the issue of the "iSync: More ways to Sync your digital life" graphic under the cell phone "constellation" on the Apple main page not loading?
It doesn't load on any of my browsers.

True...but at least if you do that then Apple will look at it.
...but maybe not.

I concur with Mr Blur.
If you're having trouble in multiple browsers it can hardly be a Safari problim, can it?
Instead, it's far more likely that it's a network problem somewhere between your ISP and the target, especially if it's affecting some sites and not others.
The first thing to try in these situations is a traceroute to the affected site. 9 times out of 10 you'll find some congestion point between you and the site and there's not much you can do until the problem is resolved.

It was probably lookupd falling over and dying. That happens occasionally. You can kick it into action again by going "sudo /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/Kicker.bundle/Resources/restart-lookupd", but it's best to restart to make sure you eliminate any stale ports (not to mention if you use the kicker it tends to fall over again after a few minutes).
lookupd has been the source of much woe in OS X for me.
