You DID notice from that .gif that apparently the G5 will be Bluetooth READY rather than "Bluetooth Included" (contrast with Extreme G4). Actually, I don't get why they put Bluetooth Ready in their lists. Any Mac with a USB port is bluetooth ready!

It means you can just plug in an internal adapter and get Bluetooth. You won't have to have a dongle or adapter hanging off your Mac. Nice.

The specs are fake. It's an employee from another company that Apple works with that uploaded the pic as a joke. He uploaded the pic trought the Akamai Network... Sources at cupertino confirmed this...
This is all translated from a dutch mac site I read often..

Not really.
Windows runs on up to 64 processor 64bit proc systems.
Besides, why run an OS if it doesn't support your apps, and you aren't familiar with it?

I would expect a rebuttal from Apple in this case then.
And why would the Apple Store phone reps have to give a "no comment" kind of thing if this was all a hoax?

I'm not offended. If I'd wanted to produce a genuine hoax I'd have spent some time getting the typefaces, leading, colours, etc right. The point is that there's no way of knowing this is genuine and sufficient inconsistencies to suggest that it might not be.

How can you tell? And even if it was a genuine Apple Store screenshot it could still have been altered afterwards. Anyone could throw those specs together from the many rumours flying around. Why is the layout and style different from that used elsewhere on the site?

I'll second that. Its fake first of all they didnt even compleat the specs like the original one. Doesn't talk about a opticle drive. NOthin about how many hard drives and blue tooth is already built in. Didnt even talk about L3 cache etc and they made such a big deal about it. The font there is not the same font any way that it has been for months. They wouldnt just change the font and color of a suddon.

It was just too tempting to pass up , and I'm working on editing a 100 page manual for work, so I'm hunting down spelling and grammar errors in everything I see.
So, anyone planning on getting one of these machines for me so I can "evaluate" it?

This is crazy! I hope that this is true or at least a portion of it is true. I have been waiting for this or perhaps another cube that has been rumored. If the specs are true, it will be much more machine than I can imagine needing for a while, but nice to have when I need it. I am not sure I will be able to sleep this weekend! Not a good thing with my girlfriend in NYC for seven days starting tomorrow. Then again if it is annouced Monday, I can order and not feel guilty until she gets back

Just sitting at work day dreaming... Two questions come to mind:
1. What kind of drives and how fast? I am sure Superdrives, bit what about the possibility of Superdrive with "+" capabilities?
2. How many slots for 8GB of DDR SDRAM?
Now that I am thinking, one more... anyone venture what the going price will be on Dual 1.42's when they start getting dumped by upgraders?

How many slots for 8GB of DDR SDRAM?
Four is my guess.
I wonder if it will require (64-bit) Panther to make use of all 8 GB.

I do think that the keynote conference might have Panther presented too, and maybe they will show off panther on the new G5's and give a release date then. That would explain a bunch of things and give time for apple to get stock up in stores, cause as of now these computers would sell out in 10 minutes.

FWIW: It was about 3-6 weeks *AFTER* the last big product announcements that our local Apple store got the new systems in, even for display.
(Also FWIW: I have no opinion on if this is a factual or fake picture of things to come.)

I'm talking about MOST. The computer aficionado is NOT "MOST". Where does most of PC sales go? Businesses. And people who think CompUSA and Best Buy are the best places to buy a computer.

Asus is one of the biggest and most well-respected motherboard manufacturers in the world. They make a lot of the motherboards that you'll find in big "name" brand machines.
Businesses have Asus boards all over.
P.S. My home machine is also an Asus.
Anyways, serial ATA at this point isn't such a humungous deal since for single drives, ATA100 is more than sufficient. Its main benefit for me anyways is convenience.

Enough with the Asus stuff. Asus is a motherboard manufacturer.
When comaring stuff, use the Tier 1 manufacturers, HP/Compaq, IBM, Gateway, Dell (And any of the other big ones I missed).
If you want to discuss it more, take it to another thread.

My question is, IF it is a fake then why no public disclaimer from Apple. Surely they know what kind of backlash this will have on the mac community?

I agree. If Apple doesn't have something similar to the 'leaked specs' or hasn't released a statement to explain this by Monday, there are going to be some pretty disappointed people at WWDC...

Actually this is not completely true. 3g iPods were available at both Fry's and CompUSA prior to them being able to sell them. They had to wait till 6 PM CST to be able to sell at Apple's request (at least that is what they both told me) They both had them in store Friday afternoon, but could not sell them till after the announcement.

Plus, wouldn't this make Apple look bad? I mean to have someone hack in and post non-existant specs? Seems like there would be a need for some damage control.

There is a new alu/white keyboard, optical 2 button mouse without cord, srollwheel made of alu, bluetooth

They have however said dont sell this item untill xxx date, but never has the box been wrapped up so much that you couldnt tell what the item is.
They have also taped up the specs section of the box so yo udont know the exact speeds ect.
I know this to be true for apple stores only, but I couldnt imaging it would be different for best buy, compusa

Actually, these Macs are referred to as "Bluetooth Optional" by Apple, meaning you gain Bluetooth functionality by adding a USB Adapter. "Bluetooth ready" means you can BTO the Mac with an internal bluetooth module. The only "Bluetooth included" machines as of now (it comes with the machine standard) are the 12" and 17" PowerBooks.

Force, you are looking to get so fired!
On Bluetooth ready, any new MDD systems shipping now are Bluetooth ready as are the new 1GHz FP 17" iMacs. They have a slot on the Lobo for a Bluetooth module to snap into, which is different than USB Bluetooth ready

A ton of XBox games have 5.1, I dont see why mac games could not! (cept for the lack of 5.1 output )
