Everybody knows about the Apple education store online, and there is also a corresponding one for Government types and contractors, but thinksecret is reporting that there are at least a hundred more - partnerships with various companies such the Gap and Walt Disney corp.

http://www.thinksecret.com/news/eppstores.html

From the article:

"What's most striking is that Apple has instituted surprisingly little security. Anyone who has the web addresses for the EPP stores can see what companies have the programs and can compare the differing discounts Apple offers them. In addition, the check out system doesn't appear to be out of the ordinary, showing no signs that Apple requires verification that the customer is, in fact, an employee of a member company. If this is the case, sources said, then anyone possessing the URL could get a tidy discount on Apple products."

I know my company has special programs with other vendors, but unfortunately Apple is not one of them...

EDIT: Oh and these are really easy to find... The ChevronTexaco store has some pretty good discounts!!! Now off to find more

I am sure there are. However, I don't think those "deep" discounts are open to the public.

Surely they require some form of identification before actually sending the order out?

Well who has bought from them? If so, what ID did they require?

Not with the edu discount. I bought an iBook for my sis who is attending college and didn't have to supply any verification. Although I did call in to change something on the order and the woman politely asked if I'm a student, but that was all.

Perhaps they would have been suspicious if I had placed an order for a dual G5 w/Cinema display? "Uh, yeah my sis needs it for Word and iChat"
