I just saw a poster for this movie - I couldn't believe. The guy belongs to AARP, he'll be collecting social security soon and he's trying to portray some uber-warrior.
I predict this movie will bomb

i'm sure he isn't expecting it to be a huge hit, but i'll be there opening weekend for sure as will many of my friends. Definitely a B movie, but should be fun.

I'm more excited about the new Indiana Jones movie, and I'm looking forward to seeing whether Harrison Ford can pull it off. I don't think a trailer has been made yet.

I think what got this going was the fact that the last rocky movie was a modest success. The studios devoid of all creativity lately decided to trot our an old (key word here) character and try to cash in on it.
The same with the Harrison Ford flick. That at least has a better cast in front of and behind the cameras - still this may not be as good as the last raiders movie.

I'm noticing that a lot of successful movies lately are about the *humanity* of the heroes that are the center of attention. Look at how Spiderman struggled, look at the struggles of Superman in Superman Returns, look at Heroes...
Perhaps the new Rambo and Indy movie will be more about the humanity and struggles of greatness rather than the romantic notion that these individuals are invincible and God-like?
Look at the Superman comics. Apparently there have been many takes on them... One is that Superman represents a God wanting to be a human while Clark Kent represents the opposite. These ideas have been explored many times in the past.
If these movies don't work, I don't think they will have anything to do with the ages of these actors. They will not be the same movie as the preceding movies, but they may end up being surprisingly good... Or not...

Raiders of the Lost Ark was the first Indiana Jones movie.

Part of me is genuinely curious as to how you derived all that from my simply correcting you on what the first Indiana Jones movie was, the other part of me doesn't really care...

You know... I was REALLY down on the Rocky movie, but it was watchable. I think he's trying to fix some of his series.

This trailer could use an accordion or two just to kind of lighten it up a little bit. Would it have killed them to show a guy playing an accordion in funny looking shorts after that guy was gutted with the knife?

I think the whole Rambo-genre has run its course. Name the last movie of this type that did any good?
Expect Arnold back in a T4 or T5 movie once his term is up.

Wow, that was awful.
Plot synopsis: 1 hour of random Blood Diamond style violence to set up a reason for Rambo to graphically explode people with a 50 cal machine gun for 25 minutes straight while an ally with a 50 cal sniper rifle explodes peoples' heads.
Great effects, but come on, seriously? That's how the series ends? What a waste of film. I even kind of liked Rambo III.

I'll stick my neck out. I actually liked the film. (Yes, even the ending)
Also: Anything that brings attention to Myanmar is fine with me.
(Trivia: I was actually at that snake farm shown in the movie several years back. It looked exactly the same .. I found my photos earlier today to confirm.)

If you're ever wondering why it's now illegal (Geneva Convention) to shoot people with a .50 calibre machine gun, Rambo is a good film to see.

Nah, I think the movie was his political stint. There are places that are a lot worse than Iraq, but the U.S. conveniently ignores them. Maybe it'll have a Free Willy affect on people, and the U.S. will finally step in.

If America DID step in they would be criticized for that as well. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Didn't know this, but if the movie is in any way accurate with respect to the effects of a .50 on the human body, I understand why. That was one of the most graphically violent movies I've ever seen (I don't watch horror movies).

Yeah ... it was VERY bloody. The killing fields of Cambodia come to mind. (It was also sort of what I envision the Rape of Nanking was like.)

I saw it over the weekend, it is a perfect movie for the Writer's strike. There is no dialog, none. A couple of syllables of grunts and groans, punctuated by more gun shots. There is only one line of memorable philosophy, but I won't spoil it(!) Suffice to say that the chart above underestimates the total kill by at least an order of magnitude.

the movie was done many months ago; long before the writers strike. or are you meaning that it is a perfect movie to say "we don't need writers so lets keep making movies" political statement?

I saw it last night. I thought it was awesome. I was not expecting much, since I saw the last two and thought they were awful. This was almost as good as the first one. And yeah, a fifty will lay waste to a human body, especially a truck mounted one. The sniper fifty cal can reach out and touch someone, too.
But what about that claymore? Is it really that bad ass?

The claymore simply lit off that 2000 pound bomb left over from WWII. Claymores are anti-personnel C-4 powered, mines filled with ~700 #4 bird shot pellets. However, a 2000 pound bomb packs quite a whollop:

What kind of bomb was that ? Did such things exist in WW2? It seemed like a nuclear yield. Or ... one of those "Mother of all bombs" that the USA developed. (In the movie they said the bomb was British)

That was great.
Sure it won't win an Oscar but for this genera of film it was fun.
It won't be the sort of film that people who weren't allowed to play with toy guns as children and instead had to weave baskets or learn to knit (yes you poster above in this very thread reading too much into these films, we can tell you had two moms) will enjoy. But for those people who grew up amassing an Entertech arsenal with their friends this movie will be worth heading to blockbuster.
All we need now is Roadhouse 2, another Mad Max film, and Iron Eagles 15.
I heard they greenlighted Point Break 2......

I laughed when the hand grenade exploded in a large fireball and whacked a bunch of guys. Grenades don't explode like that (although they could kill that many people, if one's close enough).
Watched it last night. Good movie; loyal to the genre. The wiki page says there's a Rambo V in the works.
