Still a little sore but getting better. Anyone have advice?
And for those that don't know, the big 'V' is a vasectomy.

I myself am looking to face the big "V" sometime late this year.
The only pieces of advice I have heard is no matter how good you feel, take it very easy and very slow. And that a bag of frozen peas could be your best friend for a couple days.

Actually, a couple weeks after surgery you have to make a "sample" to make sure surgery was successful. Make sure no swimmers got through.

According to my doctor, your gun may be loaded for up to 20 uses after the big "v" so be sure to use protection until the next test comes back with a big fat ZERO for sperm.

Yeah, my doctor wants a sample at 3 months just to be sure. And then for his own peace of mind, another one at 6 months.
I iced for the first 2 hours after I got home (20 minutes on, 20 off). Then slept for a couple of hours. Watch TV/DVR/Movies then go to bed. Get up the next morning, watch more TV, another long nap. Feel pretty good now.

I had mine about 5 years ago. Keep the bag of frozen peas handy. You might want to wear a cup for a while to keep things supported and protected, especially if you have young kids around who like to jump in daddy's lap
As was mentioned earlier, you still have active guys in the plumbing so be sure to do your homework and clear the pipes. Also, make sure to get a sample tested and get the all clear before you try it out.
Enjoy!!!

I hear you about the kids. My wife was kind enough to take the kids out all of Friday afternoon, most of Saturday, and about 4 hours today. It worked wonders being able to just sit on the couch and relax and get healed.

Well, I'm done with having kids so I'm sure this is something I am going to have to deal with eventually.
But I figure I'm gonna skip the whole hospital thing...

About 30 minutes. You get a local - only one guess where. Only one incision. Not really an incision, more like a hole that's the size of the end of a ball point pen. No stitches, not even a band-aid when done. Very little blood, and for me, very little swelling. Hard to walk around for the first couple of days but after that no problem. I don't know a guy gets this done and goes to work the next day though.

Got mine a few years ago, was sore for 3 days. I wasn't supposed to have sex for a week, but only waited 4 days... damn I was sore. Fully recommend waiting the full week.
One of the best decisions I've ever made though. One less thing to have to worry about.

Possible Complications:
Infection
Swelling
Bruising
Bleeding
Inflammation
Anesthesia-related problems
Chronic pain in and around the testes
Sperm granuloma (development of lumps due to immune system response to sperm leaking from the reproductive organs)
Swollen, painful testes occurring during the year following a vasectomy
Continued fertility, or re-joining of the ends of the vas deferens resulting in renewed fertility, potentially resulting in pregnancy in a sexual partner
Psychological issues related to lack of fertility
Some possible complications are still controversial within the medical community. For instance, researchers are trying to determine if vasectomy leads to a higher risk of atheroclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and blood clotting problems. Other conditions being studied include osteoporosis, kidney stones, and prostate cancer.

First my company sports team partner changes his sex, and now this on my favorite message board.
My life has become so bizare.
(Truth be told, I've been avoiding the "big 'v'" .... but I'm sure that the time will come. It just seems so .... un-natural.
I guess if everything seems like it's working then it should be ok .... hmmm ....

I'm debating doing this since I don't want to have kids of my own... that said... I'm debating just telling my wife I'm infertile nah that'd be a bit dishonest I guess.

I'm sure some of the others on this forum will encourage you to take any steps necessary not to reproduce.
But I am curious, why you don't want any kids?

I realized that I didn't want children, my life is too fast-paced to allow for them. Also, I know myself well enough to identify that I'm too selfish and ambitious to be an ideal parent.
If, for some reason, I have a change of heart, I can adopt. Personally, I don't see this happening though.

Or even better, we come to the understanding that it's both sexes problem, instead of the ignorant view that "they should just take care of it".
It's far easier for a man to get "fixed" than a woman.
P.S. Spermicide (Nonoxynol 9) itches like a motherf**ker. I'd rather not have sex at all than deal with that. Damned nasty stuff.

I got mine in October (final 3-month test is next week). We waited 4 days as well; everything went fine. :-D
I definitely reccomend laying down for the first 2 days (and the bag of peas, and snug undies). I didn't even sit up at the computer for the first two. Just had a 12 pack of Corona, and Paper Mario TTYD (fun game). I think I only took 2 doses of the pain pills that he sent me home with. He had me take some valium before the operation, and I was completely relaxed about the whole thing; even asking him questions and watching everything he did.
I started running again after about 10 days; but had to wear a jock because the bouncing wasn't very fun.

Kids are great...if you want them.
They are so much fun and they make life rewarding and worthwhile.
That much said, if you're not ready for them and you cannot take care of a child properly (check out the Political Forum for a disturbing thread on child abuse and murder), then don't have them.
The "big V" as you said is pretty effective.
However, I'm not in favor of my guy getting that done. I think people should leave their bodies alone and not mess around with them. So many people get a "simple procedure" done and next thing they know, they have a serious complication. Sometimes it's not even immediate...problems arise later on. If my spouse had that done and something bad happened as a result I'd feel terrible.
The truth is that we don't care if we have more kids or not. We enjoy them.
And we enjoy making them! (Or practicing.)
I know that as a community we've gotten pretty close over the years, but don't you all think that this is bonding a bit too much??????
VERY funny!

I had mine done back in 2000.
It took 20cc's of valium to calm me down enough to do it.
I wasn't properly grounded to the "tig welder" and he hit a nerve or something and I felt it like really bad. He used a whole bottle of lidocaine with epi on me and I STILL felt the ****ing welder.
After he was done, I drove myself home and my Ram1500 has a stick shift. I was too high to think, much less drive.
To compensate, he gave me a month's supply of Oxycodone.

Every procedure has it's potential complications. I wish you a full and speedy recovery Gankdawg.

Thanks, wd. I feel like I'm at about 90% better already. The procedure is so non-invasive compared to year's past.
No valium or anything pre-op. My doctor said he's only had one patient who actually needed it and they hadn't even started the procedure yet. My doctor also requires those who take the valium to have a ride home.

Any moron who expects a woman to get her tubes tied instead of having his guys taken care of should be shot. Plain and simple it's SOOO much easier for the guy. As for having as many kids as come... dang... I hate when I hear people talk like that... "sorry Billy you weren't so much an accident as well... we were to lazy to get daddy snipped, sorry he's sixy with a 20 year old son who still needs help paying for college."

I was prepared for being very sore, but was at work the next day( a little uncomfortable). Funny guy though, while I'm stretched out, I looked downward towards the doc, and while I see smoke rising he's humming the tune "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...".

So much for that Christian philosophy of loving your fellow man.
It's a nonissue if the woman has her tubes tied during a c-section. There's no sense making a guy go through an unnecessary surgery that has such severe complications in this instance.
If I were in this situation I would expect my wife to have her tubes tied instead of going through with a vascetomy myself.

About the only person who can afford college for a 20 year old is a 60 year old. I know many an "accident" that are happy to be alive and very thankful parents who are happen they had an "accident". They are all God's gifts.
Lastly, can you tell me any verses in the Bible that relate to creating infertility in a person? With your vast knowledge of the Bible this should be a no brainer for you.

i'm pretty sure i was a mistake.
regardless whether i was or not. i could not care less. my parents love me, i love them, i'm happy to be alive, i have a great life. does it matter if 9 months before i was born my parents said "let's have another child"?

Soshootme! She produeces one egg every 25 days or so and I produce zillions of sperms in that period. Taking care of one egg is more effycient and any mentally challenged will have agree with me!!! or deserves to be disemblowelled!!
