After 3 years, and the current 140 days of uptime, teamstats is going to be going offline sometime between now and Thursday. I don't know exactly when, as I won't pull the plug until I have to.
I also don't know when it'll come back up. I'm told the new firewall has shipped, but I don't have a tracking #. I also have to learn how to use it. Assuming I get it this week, I should have it figured out by the end of the weekend.

Hopefully you all can survive the withdrawal process for up to a week.

Tomorrow / Today, Thursday, late PM, offline they'll go. If I'm really lucky, the firewall will arrive today, and I'll be able to learn how to use it while I'm rebuilding the web server. Just to be safe, I'm replacing the swap HD on the database server, because that sucker is suspect.

The place I ordered the firewall from screwed up.
Servers online whenever I get them online if I even have time to get them online before I leave.

Got the new firewall in today.
Tonight and tomorrow night are mostly dedicated to learning how to use it, configuring it, and rebuilding the server.
Since Wed is my 21st birthday, I probably won't be doing any work on my network.

I'm hoping everything will be ready for a weekend install.

Um, hey, did you guys know that teamstats is, like offline right now. Like I tried to load the site, and then nothing happened. Also, when I tell my iBook to beat Ganon, it doesn't do it. Is it busted too? Like teamstats? When do I get to beat Ganon? Also, I like soda pop, but not when it's poured on teamstats.

Update. The boxes are running, but everything is not configured yet and the DNS entry for teamstats hasn't been updated yet.

The hardware end is done other then the suspected bad HD that makes the database server crash every few months, so teamstats will come back up even if we don't finish before Scott leaves for school. I'm doing maintenance on the database while posting this.

How large of a drive would you need were one to offer one up for replacement, if your drive is what's proving to be the problem?

The "suspected bad HD" was Scott's edit. I rather suspect the RAID controller when it gets too warm. Since the servers are now in an A/C cooled office, this may be a problem of the past.

The main holdup for the past few days has been my lack of free time. With luck, teamstats can be fixed up this weekend finally.

The suspected bad HD is a 20GB of which I have more. But it's a once every 2 months thing, and I've also replaced the kernel, which is what could have been causing the death as well. If I have to, I can get a friend in to drop a new HD in.
Servers are fully running, just waiting on some other stuff before access is turned back on.

Progress report.

The cron file has been reconstructed, and is hopefully complete. 3.3 KB

The DB has had two different repair passes, and all MacNN projects are loading again. I should check all the alternate teams to make sure they load also.

The crontab is running, so new data is accumulating for the first time since teamstats went offline. I'll check later today to make sure it's actually working. Barring major glitches, teamstats will be available again tonight at the latest.

The QS stats bar relay to team.macnn.com is disabled for the moment, until some new data has accumulated, so there is no need to worry because those stats remain frozen.

I'm told the DNS entry is fixed, so teamstats should start loading anytime.

Half the project/team combinations are updating, the other half are not. I'll have to go through them one by one to find the problems and get them unstuck. But in the meantime, we are live again. It's about time.

Heh, it would be greater news if it actually worked. Right now, URL variables are not being passed to the scripts, Scott should fix that soon. This glitch makes everything but the default MacNN pages unreachable. I should have caught that a lot sooner.

Data wasn't updating very well, probably because I didn't reconstruct the cron file quite right. Changed some lynx syntax to use the box's internal address instead of it's external IP, that might fix the slow-update problem.

My symlinks are not working for some reason, Scott will doubtless work that out presently. In the meantime, use the real folder name:

http://teamstats.macnn.com/dfold2/stats.php

- or -

Stats Sigs are working again. A big hooray to Scott for taking the blame all this time.

Turns out it was my code, a bug apparently running back to when I added file cacheing to speed the sigs up. Looks like if you were not cached during that time, you couldn't get into the sig system. With the server getting the HD formatted, the sigs cache folder was of course empty, so no one could get in.

Ok, back to Predictor stats. I can't think of any way for Scott to take the blame for those not working, since I have not finished writing them yet.

Oh, the project symlinks are working again too. All projects that end in a number will work without the number.

Edit: For those who have never had a Team MacNN Stats Sig, they come from this thread. The short instructions are to set your sig like this:

[ img]http://teamstats.macnn.com/project/sigs/UID=xxx/sig.php[/img]

where:
project = one of our valid stats projects
UID=xxx specifies your teamstats UID for that project. You can get the UID by checking the URL for your personals page.

A working example would be:
[ img]http://teamstats.macnn.com/fold/sigs/UID=1/sig.php[/img]

Just remove the space inside the [ img] tag for it to work.
