Hey Carbon, I finally found an OSX font editor so I can get work on the ChosenOS font if its not really out there. I'll do a search for the silk font first though.

EDIT-

I found the silkscreen font mentioned above. It is here:
http://eenigma.web1000.com/fonts.zip
Antialiasing in OSX kind of muddies it up a bit but it works well.

hey dude, yeah this time it's a combination of dragthing and konfabulator. i got kinda sick of the appearance limitations of dragthing docks, so now all the dock backgrounds are 100% transparent and the actual taskbar background you see in this version is just a .png image that is loaded by a konfabulator widget and simply floats in the background above windows/applications but not above dragthing docks. the 'start' button does nothing (and don't need it to either), it's just taken from your screenshot (hope you don't mind :) and is part of the .png image to complete the look.

nycdunz and swiz, thanks for tracking down the font! i found that it can look really nice if you set the dragthing font to silkscreen size 9 w/ 'extended' selected. then, go into system prefs and open the general pane and set the 'disable font smoothing on sizes [9] and smaller' (it was defaulted to 8 on mine, so i made it nine and it looks real nice now w/o the smoothing). also, size 9 is the point size used in the 'start' button... except 'start' is spaced out more, even if you select 'extended' for your dock fonts.

check out the look w/ the new font:

:: click here for the full screen view ::
what do guys think? stick w/ taipei or keep the new silkscreen font? the only thing i'm not sure on is the lenght of the text field in the process dock, right now each cell is 116 wide, leaving a pretty big gap between the application names w/ the really small font being used.

this setup is better than the dragthing-only dock i posted a while back, i have the dock hidden and pinned to the right-edge/bottom-corner and i have my scroll-wheel button mapped to command-m, which minimizes application windows off of the screen. command-h is also effective, but dragthing is slow at redrawing the application icons after they have been dimmed-out when the app is hidden. anyway, enough rambling... time to work.

//carbon

edit: tweaked the taskbar again, re-linked my post to the new image.

This is my latest desktop, I made the background picture and the chess icons in Photoshop, I use the snow-E2 system icons, synergy is showing which song is playing in iTunes, I used transparent dock 2.0.2 to modify the dock background and change the color of the triangles...

Where did you get the iChat icon ? I've been looking for it everywhere, and cannot seem to run across it.

Thanks,

That is an early build of iChat. It has the smiley instead of the aol's buddy logo. I use the smiley version instead of the buddy one...

Download here!, its from RailHead Design from their package of Jaguar (then still being worked on) icons.

Bombia - I just downloaded the "True Aqua" desktop, and I'm loving it! Fits so perfectly with Smoothstripes Gloss Blue Widgets and the plastic buttons on iTunes. Nice.

i just did the same but I think I'm going to go back to Milk. I really don't like brushed metal.

Can I find a tutorial somwhere so I can integrate brushed look from Milk into Smoothstripes?

I think that last one was that FTP program ArsTechnica created. I had it once when it was just a baby application, but I didn't keep it since I have Transmit and prefer that.

The other two I don't recognize. I've seen the A before though. It seems to be a monitor of some sort.

The one on the left in an Alcohol 120% icon that I use for Toast. It was made by Foood. You can get them here.
The 2nd one I use for Themechanger. It is part of the Paper Folder set #2 and can be found here. The 3rd one is the LiFTP program icon. It can be found here.

Those foood icons are nice, but how do you convert windows XP icons to mac OSX icons, I can open them in preview but the colors are always wrong, same with CanCombineIcons, maybe Iconbuilder can open them but there has to be an easier way ....

Foood has OS X versions on his site. I use a windows box to get the .png files and then use Iconbuilder Pro in photoshop to make them Mac format.

i was messing around with ChosenOS's resources and stuff and came up with this. ah modifying themes is so much fun. although i have no idea what half of the stuff does. :O

oops forgot to say what i did. i modified the menu bar and window bar with QuickSliver's, modified the apple menu with Brushed and modified the select thing with Brushed. all in all, its a tight theme i think.

its definattly possible. first you need to download ThemePark. After you download themepark, you need to right-click on the .dlta files of the themes you want to modify. go to "show file contents" then, go to contents > resources and find the file with "Extras.rsrc" in it. it could be named BlueExtras.rsrc so it has to have extras.rsrc. open the files in themepark. on the far left click "pxm#". click in the box that just appeared with a lot of text, then go to Filter and type "scroll" there should be less things and only words with scroll in them. look through all the things that you want to modify. then copy the ones to want and paste over the ones you dont want. be sure to copy and paste every image except the Composite or it wont look right.

those are nice, but they only work on the documents side of the dock.

are there any dividers that work on the left side (app side)?

i've seen people use these in GUIs, but can't find them anywhere...

MistaFreeze - Not necessarily. Initially, you do have to drag them to the document side of the Dock... however, once you release your mouse, and try to click it again, you'll notice that it has moved to the applications side of the Dock, and so you can move it anywhere in there.

Those work on Left Side. When you drag them to the dock drag them to the right side, drop and they'll pop over to the right.
