I just can't wait for the arguments to start up what version is actually GM and what's shipping, when that time nears! It's worth a laugh

Trust me, this is no where near GM status. Without getting to specific, I would not advise anyone to use the FileVault for any data that they are afraid of loosing in these Beta Builds. In a few words, the seed note for this build pretty much said that any files that had been in the File Vault in previous builds would have to be taken out, backed up, the new OS would have to be installed over the old one by erasing it and then to reincorporate these files into the FileVault, you had to go into the terminal and type stuff. There was also a few other notes about the dock being very flaky in this release and a few "features" that have been disabled and will be re-enabled in later builds. Be Forewarned.

Fer chrissake, I just got done with 3 CDs worth of segments for the last build, and now I've got to get another one to test my apps against. Its almost a joke to be an ADC member getting the seeds, since if I got them illegally they probably wouldn't be in segments and it would probably be faster too.

It's pretty hard to beat the 1.5 MB/s downloads I get from the ADC.

Yes, segments do suck, but atleast this time around, they included instructions on how to put the segments together, last seed, there was segments, but no note in the seed on how to put together. Not that it took to long to do, but still...

A little bird told me that 7B44 fixes some bugs, refines some features, and makes numerous minor improvements to several areas of the system!

Why? It's faster this way, and if the connection halts during the download, you don't have to start over.

Perhaps they figured that developers knew how to use Disk Copy - it's only been that way at least since Mac OS 8

Perhaps you should read the note again to see why you have to do it - it has nothing to do with the quality of 7B44.

How do I create a segmented disc image? I haven't found a way to do this with Disc Copy.
Can this be done with the terminal, or is there a special developer tool needed to do so?

I understand WHY there are segments, but when I was DLing the last seed, my connection would die, I'd have to log in again after DLing 2 or 3 segements, etc. At least last night I was able to keep my connection open a little longer and I didn't have to log in.
I only got Disc 1 though.

Let's see. Apple is making rapid improvements to their software. And this is inconvenient and a bother to YOU. So, they need to adjust their plan to accomodate YOU. Typical.

I think people were joking about new releases coming out too fast. I haven't installed one since 7B21. Really looking forward to this one.
Keep 'em coming!

Please, read the note again. It mentions nothing about the Dock being flaky. [/B][/QUOTE]
Don't nitpick, the main point of my post was that there are issues with this build and before people go screaming willynilly that this is a FC, I just thought people should know.
Here's the direct quote:
"If you used FileVault on 7B39, you may need to do this workaround to get to your data:: - While logged out of FileVault, SSH or log in as another user and see if there is a /User/<shortname of the FileVault user> - If so, delete it (This is causing the mount point of the image to be /Users/<username> 1 which is not your home path.) Once you work around this issue, log in and turn off file vault for the user before you install 7B44."
and
"If you performed an erase install and you have your home directory on another volume, your dock may see question marks in place of familiar applications"

No, they are actually issues with 7B39 which you will experience when upgrading to 7B44

You forgot the reason:
"1) For FileVault user only - there are changes in the FileVault disk image format such that they are not compatible with the previous seed's. "
It's not because there are bugs in 7B44, but because they changed the format.

Please read further. Because you have the homedir on another volume you need to replace the newly installed dock prefs with the previous one.

Can this be done with the terminal, or is there a special developer tool needed to do so?
In the Terminal:
hdiutil burn firstsegment.dmg

hdiutil segment -o firstSegname -segmentCount <#segs> imagename
or:
hdiutil segment -o firstSegname -segmentSize <size> imagename
Where imagename is the name of the original image and <#segs> is the number of segments you want, and <size> is the size of the segments in sectors.
Edit: a typo.

Thank you very much.
Segmented disc images appear to be a good way to save a 10 GB restore disc image onto CD-Rs.
I will try it.

There's a typo in my post: it's hdiutil
segmentSize is defined in sectors.

I've heard that if, say, you're in an application and open another app through the Dock, the second app opens in the background.
True?
