Everytime i add a bookmark to Safari, the beachball spins for about 4- 5 seconds (it takes about 2 seconds to appear.)
I imported my bookmarks into Safari by exporting them on my PC, enabling the 'debug' menu and using Safari's 'import' feature. The bookmarks were exported and imported as a HTML file.
I'm adding the bookmarks by using the 'bookmarks...' item on the bookmarks menu (brings up further dialogue.)
I'm using OS X 10.3.8 on a brand new mini (with hardly anything other than the original software installed on it.)
anyone else noticed this 'feature'?
PS The vB code buttons on this forum don't seem to do anything - how do you use them? (i'm having to add vB coded manually.)

I'm not quite sure whether you're talking about bookmarking the page you are currently viewing, or importing a set of bookmarks from IE. If you mean just bookmarking the current page in Safari, I can do that with no delay whatsoever (PowerMac G4 466 MHz, 384 MB RAM, Safari 1.2.4).
I do have problems with the forum's vB code. I'm not sure what the problem is either.

Unfortunately, I do mean a delay in bookmarking the current page...

I had that problem, where it would take forever to bookmark a page in Safari. So, what I did was upgrade the RAM (256MB to 768MB), and it seemed to do the trick. Now, bookmarking pages is a breeze.

I get that on occasion. No rhyme or reason. All my Macs have plaenty of RAM, and it seems totally random.

I have 1GB of RAM, and I get this problem occasionally. The solution for me was to use Firefox.

I get this problem, with 512 megs of ram, at random intervals. Why? I really don't know. I've kind of fiddled w/ Safari, but it does it no matter what i seem to do.
More thoughts?

Random shot in the dark, anyone keeping their bookmarks synced with .mac/iSync?
Even though I keep my bookmarks synced and don't have any delay...

Try using the "add bookmark" button on the address bar.
(View menu, if it's not already there)
Much quicker!

No, that "add" button is what we're talking about.
No .mac here, either.
It's just slow to create bookmarks. I don't have particularly a lot.
I do have some folder divisions, but...
I just hit "add" for this page... instantaneous.
It's not every time, which is odd...
