My Feb 2000 Sawtooth G4 450 didn't ship with an Apple Hardware Test CD (that I know of.)

Had a weird failure this AM where the machine could not recognize either drive. I re-set the CUDA switch, and wiggled/unseated/reseated al the ATA ribbons, and it came back up, but I'm wondering whether the mobo might be going south.

Will it be of any use to test this machine with the Apple Hardware Test CD that came with my 2002 Quicksilver? Or are those disks totally machine-specific?

I have a 400Mhz Sawtooth G4 and never received a "test CD." I don't think they exist, although I do think Apple shipped TechTool 2.x with some Macs.

The AHT discs didn't start shipping till mid-late 2000.

The discs are hardware-specific. It is possible that a very late Sawtooth might have come with one, but one from a different model won't work (unfortunately).

If you can get a hold of a copy of Mac Test Pro (an Apple testing tool for authorized service providers), it will have the necessary profile for the Sawtooth.

Thanks-- I do think I have a source for the auth. service disks. I'll go that route.
