Yo! Art lovers! Who you feeling at the moment?

(my clever take on the ol' "favorites" thread)

Right now, I'm all into Robert Rauschenberg...

I tend to be into movements rather than specific artists. I was recently on a surrealist kick, but it has merged into minimalism at the moment.

I think it has to do with what's going on in my life at the time. I'm working on simplifying my life, so being into minimalism fits right in. And during my surrealism phase, I was in college and was very confused and unsure about things. Surrealism fit right in there too.

...hmm..

I've always been a big Rauschenberg fan.
The usual faves include Monet (esp. when you get to see them in person! makes all the bloody difference in the world), Magritte, de Chirico, Dali, Max Ernst, etc.
Make mine a Dada/Surrealist sundae, please! With a sprinkling of Impressionism on top.

My favs are Klim & Kandinsky - to a lesser extent Miro then most abstract and cubist styles. I also like Picasso's blue period and statues in the Roman classical theme - bronze or stone - they're amazing.

Gustav Klimt. Every now and then real life will have some serendipitous resonance with the art world. One of klimt's women (An Athena perhaps? I'll have to look it up) seems to have been recently hired at my workplace.

As an artist I've sufferred from "image burnout" for many years, probably why I really can't say what's my favorite anymore. I just see too many bad designs all day that I didn't do to care anymore.

I think I'm overdue for a trip accross the river to NYC to visit the MET or the MOMA.

Nothing tickles me more than satire. One of my favorite artists (really a group, though) is Komar and Melamid. Their classic "Lenin Hails a Cab" is great.

First of all, I'm not an art history major. I'm an independent study major with a concentration in visual art. And in a month, I won't have any major at all (woohoo graduation).

Second of all, that's a beautiful print. I've been making prints all semester (woodcuts, silkscreen, and solvent transfer). It's a lot of fun. I really like the whole process aspect of printmaking. Does anyone else do non-computer based visual art? Wait...I'm going to start a new thread.
