I did cancel my order, it was a 1.25Ghz model with combo drive and 60GB HD.

But i have reordered and got a stock option 15"incher.

THe iBook is definitely not comparable to the Powerbook. Besides the major difference, aesthetic wise, also the ibook performance is definitely trailing...not to mention left to eat the dust left by the powerbook. THere are the little details that iBook is not enjoying which you won't appreciate till you need it one day and realise you don't have it. BUt Apple practically took care of all the tiny details in the powerbook. Hope this helps.

I'm definitely not cancelling for an iBook

PS Buy which ever best suit your computing needs. If you're on a tight budget then an iBook is good too .... but let me warn you of the possibility of wanting to change to an Al Book.

I cancelled mine because of the unresolved white spot issues, even though the Apple rep tried to placate me with an offer of free software. I figured even if I got $30 of software, I didn't want to go through the hassle of possible return or repair. I got a 1Ghz Titanium Powerbook from MacMall instead, at a bargain price to boot.

Yeah the titanium is a good deal. But i appreciate the idea of a huge RAM upgrade(on new al book) bluetooth...and don't even get me started on the paint issue that's plaguing all TiBook owners. Use ir for another 2 more weeks and you'll see what i mean.

Exactly!

I keep my PB 12' order and hope it arrives soon. Ordered 14 days ago and nothing happend. Spain seems not to be getting any PB's in the last weeks.

No way , man. Have you seen iBook specifications, mainly the highest RAM you can work with. There is no much you can do with that apart from MsOffice and Internet, if that is your need, then don�t loose more time cancelled it , so Apple realised what have they done wrong.(I mean price)

I had initially ordered a 15" 1.25Ghz with the 5400rpm HD, but ended up cancelling it in the end. Primarily because i played with the 1 Ghz all day at work and it may have been just a bad machine but it was plagued with problems - 3 white spots, a closed hinged that "clacked" when picking up, for some reason would not boot up when pressing the power button (actually had to do the force reboot to get it to start), and just two days a go a giant purple line of dead pixels appeared while i was playing warcraft popped on the screen. very discouraging indeed. it got me thinking that if these problems could happen, what makes my PB any less vulnerable? so they're sending a replacement (admitted it was DOA) and i just recently cancelled my order. this doesn't mean i wont pick one up in the near future, but at least it'll give apple time to sort all the little kinks out with this new revision

I was about to buy a 12"PBG4 last week; I'm going to see how the iBooks compare before pulling the trigger.

Would be nice for someone to post a direct comparison.

I'm almost completely certain that you can put the same 1GB DIMMs in the iBook as ou can in the 12" PB. In fact I think this was even possible with the old models.

Why would anyone in the world would cancel their Powerbook order in exchange for a iBook? Unless they really want to feel good about down-grading. Performance wise, you still can't put the iBook up there with the powerbooks.

some may have only wanted a PB for the G4...

and these same users may not be 'power users' per se? (whatever that means...)....

these arguments may be magnified when one is to observe the price disparity...(and carefully considered by those on delicate budgets....)....but still want full mobility, as the longer battery life is also to be considered....

Sure did...noticed you were trying to buy a G4 PB as well, maybe you should go for an ibook instead? They are spec'd pretty good. Almost a Powerbook.

I dont think anyone would cancel their order unless they really feel they could save the extra cash by choosing the ibook.

512 L2 cache vs 256...that's going to make a biggie of a difference.
Not to mention the extra stuff that comes standard on the PB but has to be added to the ibook...sum it up..you might just be able to get a low end 15" Al for alittle bit more.

(Im struggling with my ibook here...SOS..)

This is true if you compare the current crop of PB with the iBooks.

HOWEVER, if you think of the iBooks as having the SAME spec as Rev A 12" PB, or even the TiBook, then you'll know why it is so tempting to many people. For $500 less, we can get a machine that was "top of the line" till about a month ago.

The above does not apply to the 15" or 17" PBs though, because those machines are so different from the iBooks that people who are buying them won't consider iBooks in the first place.
