Could someone tell me or show me where I can find directions for posting pics in this forum. I have no idea. I click image but I get nothing. Also how do you add a pic to your signature like so many of you have. Thanks

(img)http://the link to the image you're posting(/img)

except use [ and ] instead of ( and ).

You will need to host the image elsewhere, as MacNN does not allow attachments.

You can add a sig picture by updating your profile, in the User Center.

Not dumb- I've been trying to get it too. This the advice I got...

you gotta have your image hosted by another site- say.. mac.com or something. Then you have to type in the following info- obviously customize it...

{img]http://www.yourdomain.com/path/to/image.jpg[/img]

Hope that helps!

Make sure to have the signature the correct size, and don't post photos too large otherwise the mods will spank your hand and send you to bed without dessert.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

And remember, remember, the 5th of Novem... no hang on. Remember, the sig size is 200 pixels wide by 50 pixels high, and the max sig file size is 10k.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Hit the 'reply' button directly above this message and you will be able to see the proper syntax for regular images and thumbnailed images. Of course you realize that you CAN'T post images as attachments on these forums ... you must have some web space somewhere to host them.

Example thumbnailed image

Did you never see that Monty Python skit ? Here's the context in paraphrase (its not exactly suicide .. its his chosen method of execution)

[scene of guy running .. no girls in frame]
NARRATOR #2:
This man is about to die. In a few moments, now, he will be killed, for Arthur Jarrett is a convicted criminal who has been allowed to choose the manner of his own execution.

NAKED GIRL #1:
There.

NAKED GIRL #2:
There he is!

NAKED GIRLS:
[panting]
[exciting music]

GOVERNOR:
Arthur Charles Herbert Runcie MacAdam Jarrett, you have been convicted by twelve good persons and true... of the crime of first degree making of gratuitous, sexist jokes in a moving picture.
[heavenly music]

NAKED GIRLS:
[panting]

ARTHUR JARRETT:
Aaaaaaaggh! *chased off a cliff by the naked chix0rs*
[whump]

PADRE:
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Same here .. wonder if that movie is on DVD somewhere? Maybe I'll get a movie membership somewhere later today and see if I can rent it. There seems to be a dearth of Python video clips online ... all I could find was that text description.

Amazon has pretty much everything Python available on DVD - if you got a well-stocked video store in your neighborhood you might be able to rent it.

Photoshop's save for web is sweet... Makes it miniscule in size, yet retains most of the quality.

You should have got a copy of Graphic Converter with your Mac, if you purchased it within the last few years.

You can use that to save to a specific target size.

That's Macnn. If you saw others, we all have that line. Your sig appears, multiple times. Next, we'll work on editing previous posts vs creating new ones.

Sort of on topic:

[img]file:///System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/missing_image.tiff[/img]

Why doesn't this work? Typing it into the browser window works, but it won't show... (and yes, I realize it won't actually be there for some of the people here, but other than that, why doesn't it work)

Hm, I'm not sure. I can only imagine that the forum software does not parse and display any image that does not start with http:// Just a guess though...

I don't think that's what he is asking.

I think he wonders why it doesn't display for him on his computer, although the internet browser is capable of displaying local pics.
It must be in the way the {img][/img] tags handle pics...

Yeah, that's what I was saying. I swear I've seen it work on these forums before (specifically, in the GUI forum), but I might be losing my mind.

I don't quite understand what you mean. For everyone here using Mac OS X (like myself), this link should work. If it worked with the image tag, then everyone here on OS X would see that image. That's why I'm confused. I think I've seen it work before with the image tag, but it doesn't work now.

Edit: Oh yeah, and the "I might be losing my mind." disclaimer still applies. I may have seen this somewhere else and my memory is messed up.
