How can I get 15% off at the apple online store?

I'm currently enrolled in a community college, and I'm pretty sure that Apple gives 15% off to higher education students. A friend of mine from the same college bought a MacBook from the apple store for 15% off, and she said all she did was write the name of the college somewhere in the apple store online and it gave her 15% off.
This girl isn't very bright, and maybe she mistook 10% for 15%, but I always thought that they do give 15% for higher education.
Help!
Thanks.

Get your mom to call them.
(check if your college has a discount via their computer department, or just call the Apple Online Store yourself, tell them which college you're enrolled at, and ask them directly.)

Start here. Find the name of your school. If it isn't listed, you may have to call Apple directly.

Great. I found the college, and it lets me into the store, but it's still only 10% off.... Mac Pro's starting at $2299, MacBook's starting at $999, etc.
I'm confused!

Depending on what you want. The membership is $99 and you get a free copy of the latest OS X, which runs $129 new (I can get it for $60 on a regular student discount though). Plus the discount on hardware makes it a good deal if you're planning on a big purchase.

You also get a DVD every month with the lastest code base.

Are they no longer verifying you're in a computer science program when enrolling in the Student ADC program?

It's generally cheaper to buy from a 3rd party online retailer than from Apple even with an ADC discount because of sales tax.
I can get a new C2D 1.83 Mac mini online from MacMall for $569 (with mail-in rebate) versus from Apple through ADC for $587 ($539 + $48 tax)

No, you get a DVD every month with the latest documentation. They're pretty much worthless CD's.
Student account also won't get you beta versions of OS X.

Refurb prices are the same with or without student discounts, IIRC.

It's not a percentage. It's a flat discount depending on the specific product.

Right - usually $50 on the low end, $100 on midrange, more on high-end products.

You're right. The veteran discount for refurbs was different tho.

My school has a custom store. But it's down. I assume they are working on something. It says I can shop at the "regular" education store. Does anyone know if different schools have different prices?
How the hell did Macgeek get banned again?

Agreed. ADC is pretty useless without seed keys.

Actually, there is a way to get 15% off. Have an Apple Store employee use their discount to by your stuff.
My neighbor's friend works at the Apple Store and through him, I'm getting my Mac mini.

Did Apple change the discount for their employees? I thought it was 20-25% back in the day.

I think it's more for Apple corporate employees than retail employees. IIRC, they also have a friends & family discount and maybe that's what I'm getting. My neighbor is handling it all so I don't know the details, other than that it's 15% off and it is the cheapest way to get a Mac for me.
