Wow, I miss this old toy that I just remembered I had this favorite toy of mine when I was a little boy. I am still searching this toy online so I can buy it again.
Here's a picture:

My favorite from preschool. Working car and people elevators, speedy little ramp. Gas pump. Swinging stop gate. What's not to love?
And the best driver:

Anyone remember the Fisher-Price Alpha Probe Space Shuttle? I wish I still had it so I could sample the sounds it made.

What were those tiny red cars with the yellow tops on them that almost everyone had? Very tall, but only sat one person.

Bwahahahahahahahaha! I loves that thing! Almost everyone had those back in the day.
I was still a Lego man, myself. I always threw away the instructions after I built it and made crazy ****.

I am not kidding. This thing was about 2 1/2 feet high and 2 feet deep. It was awesome. It took me like a year and a half to finish the whole thing. And my the end I even had alot of mechanical things (motors, etc.) running stuff. Ex: I had a train car that was about a foot off the floor that was powered by a motor moving a couple of legos gears on these long pieces with teeth in them. I even had a bloody elevator with an elaborate pulley system.
I loved those things. I spent hours messing around with them. But when we had to move because we lost our house, we had to sell them. I never got a picture.

Damn, I played the hell out of that when I was a kid.
In fact, a couple years ago I tracked one down, in mint condition. I had to set it up in my den. Still play it every once in a while.

How about Takara's Microman series?
The site above is Takara's current site for the Microman, but remember these from way back in the 80s? I used to have plain ol plastic ones, the die-cast bodies with ball-bearing joints, and, of course, a whole series of Acroyears to go along as the bad guys.

Last but not least, the incredible die-cast robot toys from Japan. There have been a recent series of re-issues of the real things in new colors which puts all plastic toys to shame.

When I was about 10, I had this awesome Star Trek Voyager ship toy:
That thing was my most fun toy ever. The nacelles went up and down when you pressed the buttons, and it made noises. It was just so awesome. But then we stripped the screw that held on the battery case, and the underside was really scratched up (the scratches were from me throwing it, making it "fly"). I guess we threw it away, although I don't remember that. I wish I had kept it in the original box, it's worth about $300 now, according to an eBay Store (and they say they sell it at $350 on their site!). But really, those were good times.

I loved the super hero figures as a kid. This was porbably my fav. The ring was magnitized opposite of the magnet in superman, so it pushed him away like true kryptonite would.

Ditto on that rockin' garage saddino. Also LEGO®. Have you checked the prices for Lego lately? I thought I'd sh*t my pants when I saw the price for a single square grey "ground"-plate! I'm dreading having kids now.
Oh, and for all your nostalgic toy needs there's X-entertainment

Most of that was after my childhood. I do remember Lincoln logs and Erector set. Though probably my favorite was my American Flyer train setup that my Dad built.
