She was a little over 12 years old, had a number of cancer scares (in fact we had to take her tail off a year ago), and today she simply died in her sleep, with her favorite kitty curled up with her.

I'm sad, but a bit relieved that there wasn't the last minute rush for the vet, knowing that your dog is dying, or wondering if your dog is dying.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, make SURE you hug all your family and friends (and pets.)

First, I'm sorry your serious thread is derailed in such an inappropriate manner, small minded people suck.

I hope it's not too bad for you. I think when a loved pet passes away, you ask yourself if it is ok to be almost as hurt as if it was a human friend. It is ok. May Rosebud R.I.P.

Have a nice Thanksgiving!

My brother was so upset when his dog died he swore he would never have another. He had a broken heart. Dogs can be closer than wives or friends.

Hope you get through it alright.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Alaska. Glad she went in her sleep though.

It's nice to know your dog had a "favorite kitty". You must have a pretty special home to have pets that have their own favorite pets.

I hope your other pets can be of solace to you. But remember, they need to grieve too. Be prepared for them to "wonder" what happened to Rosebud.

Hang in there!

Thanks all. It's really OK, not the first pet I've lost, and it was so fast. It was just a poignant reminder on a holiday to appreciate the ones you love, human, animal, or other.

I'm very sorry to hear that AKcrab. She is a very nice looking dog. Hope that you are at peace now and could enjoy the holiday. At least now Rosebud is resting in peace.

My family sends its sympathies. Losing a dog that you've had as part of the family for 12 years is a real blow.

Damn, that sucks. Really sorry for your loss, AKcrab. My dobie died a few years back and I miss him to this day. Always sad when a great buddy dies - keep your chin up and don't let it drag you down too badly.

Sad to loose a friend. Have photos of him and his kitty? I love my moms dog Bella 5 (Yikes just realized) got her when she was 3 1/2 (Feb 2004). Small 8 pounds 12 ounces. I don't want to think about when she will die.

Sorry man

Have lost 6 dogs and 5 cats... it never gets ANY easier...

12 is a good age, but no matter how long they live for, it is NEVER enough...

Always treasure the good times and how your dog lived to that age as she had such a GOOD home! A lot of ppl don't get to live that well...

Chin up man...

It's kinda nice. A question like that makes one go back through their iPhoto library and take a good look at what's there.

You know, I think most of the cats thought she was a "heating pad".

AKcrab, from your previous posts we already know you are truly thankful. Chin up, and remember the good times.

Rosebud had an absolutely wonderful life. It was a finite life, but you made it wonderful and she died very happy. Her good, pure, energy will always be with you because she will always love you.

Gee I'm really sorry guy. I have adopted a Basset myself. They are great dawgs! Funny personality, clownish, and gentle. A real family member. We have ours on alergy meds and she has a diet of baked chicken, brown rice and either carrots, or green beans. Gormet' treats too! 12 is too short for such a wonderful type of doggy. Rosebud was a great looking Basset!

Sorry for your loss.

The best bumper sticker I ever saw:

"The more people I meet....the more I love my dog."

So true.

My dog is the world to me. There is no replacement for a dog.

Except another dog.

Consider adopting a dog from a shelter. They need homes badly.
