Not sure what Apple was thinking, but i DON'T WANT a google search field in the toolbar? Looks like Apple attached this to the URL field, which i do not agree with.
My home page is set to a customized google search page, it is far more useful for me to hit command+shift+h to arrive at this page and perform exact phrase searching.
Is there a hack anywhere to remove this google field?

Do you have the Developer Tools (with "Interface Builder") installed?

I thought that was a bit irritating, too, but it doesn't bother me after using it for quite awhile. I just made the Google text field as small as I could.

Don't know about you guys, but I do have a "Google Search" option in my view menu, and ticking it *removes* the google search, but not the adress field. Isn't that exactly what you want to do?

Yes, from the Safari menu bar, goto View and uncheck "Google Search" It is a sub-item of the address bar, and whether you agree with its placement or not is a moot point, as all items of the address bar can be independently turned on and off.

customizing what shows up in the address bar is gone in Tiger? What the hell... I'm not sure that's forward progress.

Yes it is gone. In Tiger there is no way to remove the Google field without removing the URL field as well. Apple makes no mistakes so don't you go complain
cheers

MOS is on the right path here...that is the only way. You have to edit the corresponding .nib interface file.
