Is it that the phone indicates it is charging even though the battery is full? I don't think that is new.

It's the "1" that's off. It looks wrong and too bold, although very subtle.

The one looks properly bold in comparison to the time displayed. However it's smaller. Oddly the 00 in 100% seems to match the 3G font. What a mess.

i happened to be charging today; and took a look to see if i was at 100% yet to see the same problem.

i was at 81% and then watched 82%. the 1 is wrong there too; looks out of place like the OP. now the 2, seems off as well. then at 83%, everything looked fine.

very weird.

well, Siri can't seem to connect to any networks (everything else connects flawlessly)
seems Siri went for a walk...

Anyone else notice that the 4s battery life is slightly less than abysmal?
it's 11:31am now and I've barely used it since the last full charge this morning, the thing is already down to 76%

I noticed that battery life takes an android style beating with location reminders turned on. After I checked my reminder off the list and the phone stopped checking my location battery life resumed to the iphone 4 pace.

Thanks, I think I'll have to do some trimming. I've never owned a more sophisticated device.

First iphone here, but my battery life was just like yours. Location services, bluetooth, screen dimming, etc did not work for me. After several hours searching on the internet, I found the problem. In my case, I had to delete & re-add my exchange account to the iphone. It was an immediate difference. Before I did it, my phone ran hot & sucked down the battery. Afterwards, it cooled immediately & the battery life has been fine since then. From the posts I saw, I believe this affects exchange & gmail accounts (although I could be wrong) but it's worth checking. If you are getting email on your phone, try deleting & re-adding your accounts & see if that helps battery life.

That's interesting, I'll try that. Curiously enough, In version iOS3 there was an option to disable the push feature, seems in iOS5 there is no option to disable it. That would account for a lot of activity. Thanks

I have an iTouch (3rd generation) with OS5 and also see the battery drain Android like fast. At first I thought the iTouch´s battery simply is getting a bit old and quite possible it aggravates the problem further down. Anyway, I did not had an exchange account installed, nevertheless I did had bluetooth and lots of notifications turned on by default. I practically disabled all those notifications and my email is set to look for them manually. I will let you know if I see any improvements.

Battery life has vastly improved since I deleted/recreated the Exchange account, made it to 4:30 with 54% battery left.

I've told friends and colleagues about this, but also to inspect their notification/location settings. It seems as though the most trivial of apps has something on in there somewhere, worth looking into and fine tuning.

The font for battery percentage is indeed ****ed.

It's even slightly noticeable on a 3GS screen.

On a sidenote: isn't it awesome that iPhone users will even notice, let alone complain, about this kind of issue!? Can you imagine an Android user bitching about kerning or pitch of three characters on the status bar?

Apple users have gotten used to Apple sweating these sorts of details. It definitely is awesome that users notice this stuff. What's troubling, though, is that this issue now exists, where it didn't in the past. It implies that something has changed at Apple and this sort of detail is no longer important. That's troubling.

Which isn't really too surprising, considering the device must not be constantly checking it's location. Unfortunate, though, since I REALLY like the idea of location based reminders. It'd be nice if Location Based reminders could be a little smarter about checking in on location:
- 5 miles from location? Check again in 5 minutes
- travelling away from location? Check again in 10 minutes

Total overreaction.

No, this kind of issue has always been around, and Mac users have always brought these kind of niggling details to completely overblown attention, claiming that it's indicative of something going fundamentally wrong with Apple.

This has gone back AT LEAST to OS X DP4.

If this font issue is worth bitching over, that means that Apple is doing a *phenomenal* job.

I have got a theory regarding the battery issue. We saw that the battery drained quite fast in comparison to iOS4.. but did you guys noticed that recharging the device was too fast? In other words *maybe* the device with iOS5 needs to calibrate the battery. I´m on that right now .. will post results.

Personally, I haven't noticed any striking differences between battery life in iOS4 and iOS5. But, usually the moment I notice that my iPhone is starting to get warm just sitting in my pocket, I go and close all the apps running. Also, I noticed in iOS4 that "Find my iPhone" seemed to be a big battery hog, so I don't run it.

Just to report I had no luck stopping the rate of battery consumption. Calibrating the battery didn't help. I only get 1 day of use at the most. I will have to wait and see if an update helps this issue.
